Employment relationship refers to the utility exchange relationship between employers and employees. It affects employee creativity through creating the organizational contexts perceived by the employees. In addition, we explore the moderating roles of employees’ individual characteristics in employment relationship creating organizational contexts beyond the perspective of joint effects of employees’ individual characteristics and organizational contexts on employee creativity. For the individuals with different characteristics, they may perceive different organizational context under the same employment relationship. Therefore, they may show different level of creativity. In sum, we develop an integrative framework to unpack the mechanisms underlying the relationship between employment relationship and employee creativity, and to lay a foundation for future research.
