【正文】 ”。三 結(jié)語(yǔ) 委婉語(yǔ)的翻譯，使譯者陷入矛盾之中。如果照原文的字面翻譯，如宿柳譯成sleeping out under the willow,可能讀者會(huì)感到過(guò)分晦澀。西方翻譯理論家紐馬克也說(shuō)：委婉語(yǔ)必須用文化對(duì)應(yīng)詞來(lái)翻譯Euphemisms are invariably mataphors and the images often have to be replaced by a culture equivalent,unless the metaphors and the tanslator is trying to inform the reader rather than affect him in a way similar to the SL reader.照字面翻譯，往往是“異化翻譯”〈foreignizing.在委婉語(yǔ)翻譯中，霍，楊都有“異化翻譯”，另一方面，如果不按照字面翻譯，直譯則未能把握原文的寫(xiě)作意圖：原文刻意隱諱，而譯本卻一語(yǔ)道破。傳統(tǒng)的翻譯觀(guān)講求忠信，而意譯的正是對(duì)諱飾效果的不忠。當(dāng)然，意譯的做法替讀者消除了理解上的麻煩，并不是完全沒(méi)有好處。那么，以目的語(yǔ)的委婉語(yǔ)來(lái)翻譯原文的委婉語(yǔ)，應(yīng)該是較易為讀者所能接受的做法。 Euphemism and its translation in the two full English translation versions of A Dream of Red MansionsAbstract:There are two full English translation versions of A Dream of Red Mansions translated by Hawkesamp。Minford and Yang Xianyiamp。Gladys Yang respectly.Some euphemisms in the two versions are analysed to pare the advantages, disadvantages and tranlation skills in the process of Chinese to English tranlation of each version in this paper.Key words: A Dream of Red Mansions。 “death”, “illness”, “sex”。 euphemism。 translation.參考書(shū)目〈1〉A(chǔ)yto,J 1993 Euphemisms.
