The woman kept as near as she could to the children…這位婦女盡可能地靠近孩子…… keep在這里表示“保持(某種狀態(tài))”。 as…as one can/could和 as…as possible同義，都表示“盡可能……”： He got through as much food as he could and set out. 他吃了盡可能多的食物，然后出發(fā)了?！ ell Jim to e to my office as soon as he can. 讓吉姆盡快到我的辦公室來(lái)?！ ?. She stamped out the letters‘SoS’ in the amp。quot。SOSamp。quot。這3個(gè)字母。 out在這里為副詞，表示“出現(xiàn)”、“顯露”等： The writer has brought out another book. 這位作家又出版了一本書(shū)。 He wrote out a long list of all the foods which were forbidden. 他開(kāi)列一張長(zhǎng)長(zhǎng)的單子，上面列了所有禁吃的食物?！ ?. It was not long before a helicopter arrived on the scene to rescue the survivors of the plane crash. 不久，一架直升飛機(jī)飛抵飛機(jī)失事現(xiàn)場(chǎng)，來(lái)搭救這幾個(gè)幸存者。 (1)to引導(dǎo)的不定式為目的狀語(yǔ)?！ ?2)It was not long before…為固定句型，表示“不久就……”(也可以用 It will not be long before…表示將來(lái)可能發(fā)生的事)， 其含義與before long(不久)相近，只是before在課文這個(gè)句型中是連詞，而在before long中為介詞： It was not long before they learnt the news. 他們不久就知道了這消息。 It will not be long before he gets over his illness. 他大概不久就會(huì)痊愈。
