【正文】 林中鳥兒,數(shù)不勝數(shù),奏出各種混雜但悅耳的音符,對一個在噪音和煙霧中度過了整整一個冬天的人來說,這一切構(gòu)成了世界上最舒適的景致。每年的這個季節(jié),任何一條小道都是一派美麗的景色,每一叢籬笆斗綴滿花束。Both of the two are beautiful description of the peaceful scenery. A translator, due to the large difference between English and Chinese, is necessary to throw over the sentence structure of the origin after holding the meaning and understanding the author’s conception. Then rearrangement is indispensible in order to achieve a better translation of the literary prose. The version above has cast a aesthetic effect in Chinese. The rendition “連續(xù)兩個星期,一直雷雨交加,這個晴天也就分外難得” (It was the day by itself, ing after a fortnight’s storm and rain), the sentence sequence is almost contrary to the original sentence, but seems to be more suitable to the original text. It is also true in “masses of gorgeous harmonies in red, brown, and yellow”, the addition of words and phrases, on the contrary, harmonizes the inner structure of the sentence, making it possible for readers to learn the colorful scenery in the countryside. What’s more, the reorganized messages according to the text contribute to a natural and vivid Chinese version in the guidance of functional equivalence. On the other hand, language and culture are related to each other and language is a part of culture, and draws the experience that a culture has sedimentated. Every culture has its own way of observing the world, and hence it is vital to have a good mand of cultural background in both target language and source language. As for the translation of English literary prose, the abundant knowledge of cultural background is of great emphasis. Furthermore, English is a language, on a large degree, influenced by other cultures such as Greek, Roman, French and Latin etc. A brilliant English literary is also owe to it. Without the necessary cultural knowledge, it is impossible to have a good mand of the cultural meaning in the text and produce a good equivalence translation. One case in point is listed as follows:Example6. I chanced to rise very early one particular morning this summer, and took a walk into the country to divert myself among the fields and meadows, while the green was new, and the flowers in their bloom. As at this season of the year every lane is a beautiful walk, and every hedge full of nosegays, I lost myself, with a great deal of pleasure, among several thickets and bushes that were filled with a great variety of birds, and an agreeable confusion of notes, which formed the pleasantest scene in the world to one who had passed a whole winter in noise and smoke. (115) 今年夏天的一個清晨,我偶然起了個大早,信步走向鄉(xiāng)間,期望在田間和草叢之間尋求一份愜意。這天午后,我信步出門,這時候還不到敗葉蕭蕭落的季節(jié),但是花園已被落葉覆蓋。太陽并不燦爛,但是柔和的光線穿過條狀云彩,向四處彌漫;條狀云彩橫貫長空,仿佛一條條平行線。Translating the word “brilliant” into “栩栩如生” and “in longhand” into “詳詳細細,一筆一畫記錄下來” are shown originality, which turn abstraction into material scenes on the basis of fulfilling the equivalence in readers’ response. The associative meaning of a word, in translation of literary prose, should be very carefully interpreted, because language itself involves rich culture deposits. The same word may bring various psychological imaginations in different countries and regions. Translators should not fail to see the culture influences and try to achieve the equivalence of the original text for the target language. B. Functional Equivalence in sentencesBased on Nida’s theory, translation intends to find the closest natural equivalence in the target language to regenerate the meaning of the source language. In virtue of the development of history and the difference of cultural deposits, it es to light that English and Chinese have access to many a difference in conveying perplexing and particular information. Their unique syntactic structures result in different division of sentential elements. In other words, if not inevitable, the reorganization of the original sentences is desired.. Only when the translator realizes the formal characteristics of the language and is capable of getting rid of the limitation of them, may he take measure to stride over the gap between the two languages. The fact that English is subjectoriented and Chinese is topicoriented determines their difference of meaning units thus making it impossible for word to word translation. Namely, formal equivalence ought to give way to functional equivalence. Especially the translation of literary prose, due to its characteristics, should not only be flowing and nice but municate the literary flavor of the original text. The following examples
