Application of Oil and Fat in Sow Diet GUAN Wutai (SCAUUniOil Feeding Oil amp。 Fat Research Centre, College of Animal Science, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China) Abstract: Oil and fat being source of high dense energy, providing essential fatty acids, enhancing absorption of fatsoluble vitamins, thus it play a vital role in sow nutrition. The reproductive performance and feed efficiency could be improved when supplementing oil and/or fat in sow diet during late gestation and/or lactation. This paper mainly reviewed and discussed the research advances in last 20 years concerning the effects of oil and fat on sow reproductive performance, 20 sows’ feed intake in lactation, sow body weight loss, sow backfat loss, fat content and energy output and fatty acid profile in milk, body position of offspring piglet, and the reproductive performance in the subsequent parity when sows were fed diets containing the oil and/or fats in late gestation and/or lactation.
