【正文】 部落) lived on the wrong side of the island of two faces. The two sides, separated by a great cliff (懸崖), were like night and day. The good side was watered by rivers and was filled with trees and abundant food, while on the wrong side there was hardly any water or plants, and wild beasts crowded together. The Mokoko had the misfortune of having always lived there, with no way to cross to the other side. Their life was hard and they lived in permanent terror of the beasts. Along the edge of the cliff separating the two sides, a skinny but strong tree grew, with which they could build two poles. There was no doubt that the tribe would choose the great chief and doctor to use the poles. But when the two of them were given their chance to make the jump, they didn39。t dare to. They thought that the pole could break or it would not be long enough. They put so much energy into these thoughts that they gave in. But into that tribe were born Nam and Ariki, a pair of young hearts. One day, they decided to take up the poles. Nobody stopped them, but everyone did try to discourage them, trying to present how dangerous the jumping was, using a thousand explanations. And what if what they say is true? wondered the young Naru. Don39。t worry. I am a bit scared too, but it doesn39。t look so difficult, replied Ariki, ever determined. But if it goes wrong, it will be a terrible end, continued Naru, undecided. Perhaps the jump will go badly. But staying forever on this side of the island surely won39。t work out well either. You39。re right. Let39。s do it tomorrow. And on the next day, Naru and Ariki jumped to the good side of the island. When taking up the poles, while feeling their desire, the fear hardly allowed them to breathe. And while flying through the air, helpless and without support, they felt that something must have gone wrong and death awaited them. But when they landed on the other side, they thought the jump really hadn39。t been so bad after all.(1)What situation were the Mokoko faced with? The two sides, separated by a great cliff (懸崖), were like night and day. The Mokoko had the misfortune of having always lived there, with no way to cross to the other side. Their life was hard and they lived in permanent terror of the beasts.” 根據(jù)第二段中的“There was no doubt that the tribe would choose the great chief and doctor to use the poles. But when the two of them were given their chance to make the jump, they didn39。 故選A。 根據(jù)第二段中的“They thought that the pole could break or it would not be long enough. They put so much energy into these thoughts that they gave in.” 根據(jù)兩個(gè)人的的對話“ And what if what they say is true? wondered the young Naru. Don39。t worry I am a bit scared too, but it doesn39。t look so difficult, replied ariki, ever determined. Perhaps the jump will go badly. But staying forever on this side of the island surely won39。t work out well either. You39。re right. Let39。s do it tomorrow. But when they landed on the other side, they thought the jump really hadn39。t been so bad after all”可知,他們用勇氣和決心克服了困難。故選A?! Paying a higher price than usual for a ticket to see a film in 3D is the annoyance of many a cinemagoer39。s life. But there may be a benefit to doing so, as a study has found that 3D films exercise the brain and improve shortterm functioning in a similar way to braintraining tests. The research found that people who watched a movie in 3D improved cognitive (認(rèn)知) skills, pared to those who watched it in 2D. The research was led by neuroscientist(神經(jīng)學(xué)家) Dr Patrick Fagan from Goldsmiths University in London. More than 100 people took part in the experiment, where participants watched Disney film Big Hero 6 in either standard format or RealD 3D. They also carried out a braintrainingstyle test before and after seeing a section from the film. The test covered memory, reaction times and cognitive function and the results were pared later. According to the research, which was carried out in partnership with science group Thrill Laboratory, participants experienced a 23 percent increase in cognitive processing, as well as an 11 percent increase in reaction times. Dr Fagan said that the results showed enough of an improvement in brain function to suggest that 3D could play a part in improving brain power in the future. These findings are more significant than you might think, he said. It is a fact that people are living longer and there is a noticeable decline in cognitive brain function in old age which can worsen future quality of life. There has never been a better time to look at ways to improve brain function. The initial results of this study show that 3D films may potentially play a role in slowing this decline. A second part of the experiment involved those watching the film being fitted with headsets that scanned b
