【正文】 ical wonders of modem medicine, health carewith its fax machines and clipboards(寫字板)—is out of date. This outdated era is slowly drawing to a close as the industry catches up with the artificialintelligence ( AI) revolution. Eric Topol, an expert in heart disease and enthusiast for digital medicine, thinks AI will be particularly useful for such tasks as examining images, observing heart traces for abnormalities or turning doctors39。 words into patient records. It will be able to use masses of data to work out the best treatments, and improve workflows in hospitals. In short, AI is set to save time, lives and money. The fear some people have is that AI will be used to deepen the assemblyline culture of modem medicine. If it gives a gift of time to doctors, they argue that this bonus should be used to extend consultations, rather than simply speeding through them more efficiently. That is a fine idea, but as health swallows an everbigger share of national wealth, greater efficiency is exactly what is needed, at least so far as governments and insurers are concerned. Otherwise, rich societies may fail to cope with the needs of ageing and growing populations. An extra five minutes spent chatting with a patient is costly as well as valuable. The AI revolution will also enable managerial accountants to adjust and evaluate every aspect of treatment. The autonomy of the doctor will surely be weakened, especially, perhaps, in publichealth systems which are dutybound to cut unnecessary costs. The Hippocratic Oath(誓言) holds that there is an art to medicine as well as a science, and that “warmth, sympathy and understanding may outweigh the surgeon39。s knife or the chemist39。s drug”. There39。s lots of sense in it: the patients of sympathetic physicians have been shown to recover better. Yet as the supply of human carers fails to satisfy the demand for health care, the future may involve consultations on smartphones and measurements monitored by chatbots. The considerately warmed stethoscope (聽(tīng)診器) ,placed gently on a patient39。s back, may bee a relic of the past.(1)What39。s Dr Topol39。s attitude toward AI39。s ing into medicine? ....(2)What does the author of the text attach more importance to? costs. wealth. consultation. efficiency.(3)Why is the Hippocratic Oath mentioned? prove the bright future of AI. show the advantage of a human doctor. explain medical equipment is more important. argue a human doctor performs as well as a robot.(4)What may be the best title for the text? care and AI and its applications and Patients Topol and digital medicine【答案】 (1)C(2)D(3)B(4)A 【解析】【分析】本文是一篇議論文,盡管現(xiàn)代醫(yī)學(xué)創(chuàng)造了許多技術(shù)奇跡,但醫(yī)療保健——包括傳真機(jī)和剪貼板——已經(jīng)過(guò)時(shí)了。 根據(jù)第二段中的“Eric Topol, an expert in heart disease and enthusiast for digital medicine, thinks AI will be particularly useful”可知Topol醫(yī)生認(rèn)為認(rèn)為人工智能將特別有用,即他對(duì)人工智能進(jìn)入醫(yī)學(xué)界是持樂(lè)觀態(tài)度的,故選C。 根據(jù)第四段中的“That is a fine idea, but as health swallows an everbigger share of national wealth, greater efficiency is exactly what is needed, at least so far as governments and insurers are concerned.” s lots of sense in it: the patients of sympathetic physicians have been shown to recover better.” 故選A。 A recent documentary produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has caused a stir in China and in the UK. The documentary, titled Are Our Kids Tough Enough? focuses on five Chinese teachers who are sent to teach 50 UK teens at a school in Hampshire. The teachers instruct the students for a month. The pupils are then tested, and the results are pared to the ones of those who have continued in the regular UK education system. The idea is to see if the Chinese method improves academic performance. The Chinese teachers use their own teaching methods but receive strong resistance from the students. A clip from the documentary online shows some problems, with Chinese teachers calling their students lazy and lacking in discipline, while the students say the high pressure and harsh teachers are driving them crazy. This has aroused a new debate in both China and the UK, with some arguing the teenagers need more regulation and discipline. Others say Chinese methods encourage rote learning (死記硬背) instead of independent thinking. For instance, Chinese language teachers should do more than pass on knowledge about words and characters. They should inspire students, helping them feel the sentiment from Chinese literature. This is a higher level of teaching. Yang Dongping, dean of the 21st Century Education Research Institute, says, The Chinese teaching methods are designed to strictly train the majority. Foreign teaching methods, however, are more natural and relaxing, and designed to inspire students39。 interest in learning. Education methods are based on culture. That is why a successful education method in one place may not work that well when simply 39。transplanted39。 into another place. Yang Dongping says, The documentary does reflect some problems rooted in traditional Chinese teaching methods. Nobel prize winner, Yang Zhenning, gave a very fair ment on this issue. He said the Chinesestyle education method works for most ordinary qualified students effectively, helping them reach high standards. However, it may weaken the training for highpotential outstanding students.(1)Why are five Chinese teachers sent to teach 50 UK teens? test the intelligence of the UK teens. help the school improve their teaching efficiency. do some practical research into the UK education system. test the effectiveness of Chinese teaching methods.(2)What39。s the meaning of the underlined word harsh in the fourth pa
