One relevant project is about a web news search system. My work focused on improving an existing algorithm of web news crawlers. Because the web news is updating about 2 times a day. The first challenge the speed of crawlers is too low to catch the site update rate as every round of searching duration usually cost even 3 to 4 days. With the increasing resisted news web site, more time will be needed. So I make some research on searching algorithm and find out that it is indeed not the bottleneck of engine speed, it is the cost of inter connection lag that cause 80% time. So I work out a distributed solution for the search algorithm, and make a prototype to deploy the search engines to several lab machines. When multiple search engines work simultaneously, the cost of time is dramatically reduced and the web crawlers can catch up the latest news every day. The second challenge of this project is that when huge data will be stored into database, the consumption rate of database is slower than the news data generation rate. So data will be overflow in the central system. To solve the problem, I try several ways to solve the problem. 1. Increase the database consumption buffer. 2. Optimize the database insertion language. But both ways do not work. So I borrow a lot of book of database from the library to learn the detail operation principle of the database and finally I find out that it is the duplicate check that cause most of time. I work as team leader of group of 35 person, I not only work with the team to develop the product but also maintain their work progress. I?ve been team member within various projects of school projects and petition. As a team member, I will always try my best to acplish the assigned tasks. I was awarded outstanding teaching assistance during my graduate study. I assist my tutor on bachelor class ?Introduction of Software Engineering?, my duty is to instruct and check the students project work. Students will directly ask me questions about the classroom lecture. I fell always a duty to get wellprepared in case not make a mistake.
