tance of interest in the education aim, curriculum materials and teaching methods. He advocates that education is life, growth and transformation. Education experience should meet the requirements of kid’s interest. William Heard Kilpatrick further developed and innovated Dewey’s theory of interest. He Wu Zhangjian Analysis on the Current Situation of Students’ English Learning in Rural Junior High School 6 emphasized the role of interest and emphasized that interest is good for learning, growth and the cultivation of students favorable character. Therefore, the research of learning interest sparks a continuous development and deepening process. From the ancient philosophers’ education of Greece to naturalism education and to the movement of education psychology and to the late progressivism education movement, researches of learning interest have been catching so many educationists’ eyeballs. In the Oxford Advanced Learner’s EnglishChinese Dictionary (6thedition), the explanation of “ interest” is: the feeling that you have when you want to know or learn more about sb/sth. In west, so many scholars study interest, so we can learn something from the west interest study and from the researches in china, we can arouse students’ interest to learn English. To sum up, even though, there are so many studies about English teaching in rural areas, which either focuses on English teaching problems, teaching situation, or students’ English learning, only a few studies survey on students’ learning of rural junior high school. So, constantly analysing and studying the English teaching and students’ English learning in rural areas is still of great importance for the rural English teaching. 3. A Survey on Rural Junior High School Students’ English Learning Purposes of the Survey To have a better understanding of students’ English learning in rural areas and to effectively teach English during my fulltime teaching internship, I finished this survey at the first week of my internship at Shanwei Junior High School of Beiliu city, Guangxi province. Objects of the Survey To finish this survey and to better show the result, I selected two classes of eighth year, Class Six and Class One. The survey questionnaires were distributed 138, recovered 136, 124 valid questionnaires. BA Thesis of Yulin Normal University 7 Design of the Survey The surveying content: It mainly consists of four sections: the aspect of students, the aspect of teacher, the aspect of textbook, the aspect of affecting factors. Such as learning motivation, learning attitudes, interest in learning English and the aspect of teacher, textbook and environment. Before the survey, I got in touch with the class head teacher and told students the requirements on site that they should finish the questionnaire with anonymity and this questionnaire is used only for my study, the results will not be published. With the hope of eliminating students’ doubts, and then asked students not to discuss with others, for a truthful answer is the most important. Analysis on the Survey Result When collecting all the questionnaires, I firstly analysed all the valid questionnaires and calculated each question with calculator, then analysed the result in details to have a better understanding of rural junior high school. The following tables are the result I got from the questionnaire. Section A. The aspect of students Table also see question 1 Did you learn English before yes no numbers 65 59 percentages 52% 48% The Ministry of Education requested that all the rural junior high schools should create English classes from grade three of primary school in general by the winter of 2021. But this table tells us that only 52% of students surveyed have learnt English at primary school, that is to say almost half of students are new to English at seventh year. So it is very important for English teachers to teach, especially those teachers who teach seventh year students. Wu Zhangjian Analysis on the Current Situation of Students’ English Learning in Rural Junior High School 8 Table also see question 2 Is the English learning experience before helpful to you a lot a little no D K(don’t know) numbers 31 74 14 5 percentages 25% 60% 11% 4% In this table, among those who have learnt English at primary school, only 25% of students think it gives a lot of help to them, 60% of them think the learning experience has a little help for their now English learning, this is because for those students who have learnt English, both their English teacher and school did not pay enough attention to students’ English learning, so even students learnt English before, they can not catch up with those in city. Table also see question 3 Your motivation of learning English interest need for exam for the future study and go abroad never think numbers 38 25 32 29 percentages 31% 20% 26% 23% In the table , 31% of students learn English mainly because of their interest。 it focuses on the knowledge storage, it ignores the knowledge understanding and innovation。 number two is the aspect of English learning environment, including rural social environment and famil y environment. Liu Jian (2021) thought the main factors that influence the reform of rural junior high school English teaching are obsolete ideas, crude teaching facilities, English teacher’s inadequate understanding, test reform’s inconformity with teaching reform, inappropriately teaching methods, etc. And he also gave some strategies. Pan Hong (2021) revealed the factors that make students hard to learn English in empirical method, . difficult to remember English words, difficult to do oral expressions for them, poor learning environment, lack of qualified teachers.
