【正文】 t make decisions for others without their permission. It39。m reading it. The whole story consists of many characters . In the story Austen shapes a willful woman who has many character flaws. Emma is not only a character , she represents a group of woman who are selfish, snobbish, subjective and jealousy in that era. It39。s life, especially that of a woman who is single and childless. 10 The story of this novel seems more plex and intricate, it39。s everyday life is dull indeed。s other related to the social background Miss Emma Woodhouse is a shining example of a 19th century socialite. Beautiful, clever and wealthy, she fancies herself a mastermatchmaker and sets in motion a laundry list of schemes to pair off the Highbury residents. She is an intelligent young woman with too little to do and no ability to change her location or everyday routine. Though she lives in a loving family and don39。s proposal because she believes that he is very unfit match for Harriet due to his lower rank in the society. She believes that Mr. Martin can not be a true gentleman because his position is not as prestigious as her own. Another specific incident in which Emma displays a picture of snobbery is during her conversations with about Mr. Elton. She considers Mr. Elton to be a true gentleman solely because of his high rank in the society. This judgement leads her to separate Harriet from Mr. Martin and match her with Mr. Elton. However, Emma is again corrected by Mr. Knightley who influences her to think otherwise. Generally, as it is the place where Emma live- Highbury’s social nature and these people who around her have influenced her. In the end, this negative effects leads to the formation of her character flaws. 4. Conclusion As a female writer,Austen describes the story in a precise way. And the reflection of Emma’s character is very reading the story,it39。s status in the society. This can probably explain why Emma is so proud, selfconceited and snobbish with intense class discrimination. One of the examples that illustrate the snobbery of English society is shown through Emma39。s emotional feelings but treated as a trade based on one39。s wrong doings. According to these people who are around her, are obedient to her, then it encourages her character and bees more and more conceit and subject. Some phenomena of the society Emma39。s help when Mr. Martin proposes to her: Oh! No, I am sure you are a great deal too kind tobut if you would just advise me what I had best do...do you think I had better say NO? She keeps following Emma39。 departure to married life. Harriet is regarded as a very pretty but unsophisticated girl who is too easily led by others, especially Emma. She is easily taken under the wing of Emma and bees the subject of some of Emma39。s wisdom and sensation in many aspects of life. She takes up the empty spare left after Emma39。s governess Mrs. Weston also has failed to direct Emma in a more constructive way as she simply regards herself as Emma39。 but Emma was aware that great must be the difference between a ,only half a mile from them, and a Miss Taylor in the house。s superior talents in almost everything. When forced to ment on her, Emma simply plains that she is very reserved. One can not attach oneself to a reserved person. She also believes that Jane is in love with a married man who sent her a costly piano, but the truth is that the piano is sent by Mr. Frank Churchill who has secretly engaged with Jane. Emma39。s actions. Mr. Elton has done a couple of things for Harriet, following the hints dropped by Emma but the motivation of doing these is actually to please Emma. All these boring and ridiculous action prove that Emma is keen on minding others’ business. Lazy and Jealous 7 Laziness and jealousy are also some of Emma39。 actions. There is no exaggeration to say in the matchmaking that it is the conceit or rather the fancy that plays the leading role from the very beginning. The curtain rises as Emma’s rich fancy on Harriet Smith’s birth, and there’s no doubt that it serves as an appropriate example. Putting aside the fact that ―whoever might be her parents,‖ Emma fancies the natural daughter Harriet Smith as ―no doubt a gentleman’s daughter‖ and persuades her that ―she must support her claim to that station by everything within her power‖, what’s more, ―Emma couldn’t feel a doubt of having given Harriet’s fancy a proper direction‖ and ―she was quite convinced of ’s being in the fairest way of falling in love with Harriet‖. As a result, all these pave way for her series of ridiculous matchmaking. In the following scenes, Emma’s overconfidence is weaved in whole story. The most typical and ridiculous scene in this case is Emma’s misunderstanding of the charade from Elton. ―I cannot make a question, or listen to a question about that. It is a certainty. Receive it on my judgment‖ and she arranges that ―Leave it to me. You do nothing‖ to add certainty to her overconfidence. Simultaneously, she convinced that Harriet, one of her close friends, deserves to marry a rich gentleman hence persuades Harriet to reject the proposal of Mr. Robert Martin, who is not regarded as a rich person by her. Meanwhile, Emma has tried all the possible ways to establish a relationship between Harriet and a richer gentleman, Mr. Elton. However, Emma39。s speech strategy from the perspective of municative context of Verschueren39。s writing skills. According to Su, the ending of Emma breaks the traditional view of marriage. Mr. Knightly moves to Emma39。s subjective view and the reality (Lin Wenchen: 2020:112), and the conflicts between sense and sensibility. Chen (Chen Sheng: 2020:97) discusses the irony effect achieved by the disparity in narrative perspective and narrative voice. Some critics pay attention to the char
