LVHM Low Volume/High Mix Overview of Tools and Processes Designed for the LVHM Environment Understanding LVHM ? How does Jabil define LVHM? ? Demand is spread over the majority of active assembly numbers. ? Run time for SMT is often shorter than the changeover time. (Note: Changeover time = the time between the last piece of product A to the first piece of product B). ? Lot sizes are typically small (often 100 units or less). ? The workcell or plant builds a variety of products with dissimilar setups. ? Assemblies often follow different manufacturing “routes” (backend process times fluctuate by assembly). Understanding LVHM ? What are the reasons we need a strategy for LVHM? ? Existing and new customers are driving smaller lot sizes. This could be due to several reasons: 1. End user demand for products is very unpredictable and manufacturing leadtimes are relatively short. 2. End user demand is low in parison to our site’s ability to produce those assemblies. 3. Assemblies are undergoing numerous engineering revisions. ? March 2020 – 35% of assemblies had monthly build quantities of less than 100. ? March 2020 – 57% of active assemblies had monthly build quantities of less than 100
