【正文】 ight and wrong . What’s more, it broadens our horizons and gives us wisdom as well, which helps us live better and more wisely in our life. Last but not least, reading books can also bring us more imagination than watching TV or surfing the Inter can do. Since reading books is so beneficial to us, let’s respond to the appeal and make reading books an essential part of our life. One is never too old to learn. No matter what time you realize the importance of reading books, you can enjoy it during the rest of your life time. Love books, for they are your best friends. 聽力原文 Text 1 W: What time are you leaving? M: I’m going to try to leave by 10:00. W: Take care and give my best to your parents and Jane. Text 2 M: Does this bus go to the beach? W: No. You’re going the wrong way. You want the Number 11 bus. It stops in front of the post office. Text 3 M: I can’t stand Mr. Smith’s lessons. They are so boring and I cannot learn anything from them. W: But you can’t afford to drop his class, otherwise you’ll never graduate. Text 4 M: Is there any chance of my borrowing your typewriter? W: Yes, I guess that would be all right. Text 5 W: I had to deal with so many courses last term that I really had a hard time. M: I told you it would be better for you if you took fewer courses during the first term. W: I should have accepted your advice, but it’s too late now. Text 6 M: Mrs. Montgomery? I’ve been trying to figure out when we should have the New Year’s party. Could you take a look at these dates? W: Sure. The twentyninth is out. I’ll be out of the office all day at a seminar. Either the twentyeighth or the thirtieth is fine. M: Well, why don’t we make it the thirtieth? We can have it from three to five. That way, everybody can just go home afterwards. W: Sounds good to me. You make the invitations. I’ve got to run. I’ve got a meeting in five minutes. Text 7 W: Why do lots of foreigners write with their left hand? M: I don’t know. I’m lefthanded, but not all of us are. W: So why do you write with your left hand? Isn’t it better to use your right hand? M: It doesn’t make any difference. Lefthanded or righthanded, it’s all the same. W: When I was young, I could use both my hands well. But my mom told me to use my right hand. So now, like most Chinese people, I’m righthanded. M: My mom never said that. She thought it was my own choice. W: Well, is it ever inconvenient? M: No. W: What about when you drive? M: I don’t drive, Mary. My friends often give me a ride. Text 8 W: Can you give me a hand with some things in the kitchen? I don’t think I can finish everything in time. M: OK. What do you want me to do? W: First of all, I need you to dry the dishes. I’ve almost finished washing them. I’m going to clean the stove when I finish. M: OK. I’ll put the plates away as I dry them. Where’s the towel? Oh, I see it. W: We’ll have this finished in no time with two of us working on it. M: While you’re cleaning the stove, I’ll wipe the counters. That was a great meal, by the way. W: Actually, I made far too much food to eat alone. I’m glad you could e over. M: My pleasure! This towel is a little wornout. Do you have another one? W: Yes. Look in that drawer. I should throw that old one out. M: Keep it and use it as a rag. You can clean your bicycle with it. Text 9 W: I think you made the right choice, ing to us. We have a wide selection of vehicles you can choose from. M: I would like to rent a car with a good air conditioner. W: All our cars have air conditioners in them. They’re all standard with us. M: Good. I am here visiting my girlfriend. I want her to have a good time. W: Oh, is that so? Well, then, let me show you something she might like. M: This is a Porsche! W: Yes. Beautiful, isn’t it? M: Yes, it looks fantastic. W: Take a seat inside and see what you think. So you will take the Porsche then, sir? M: Yes, and I want to buy the insurance too. I think it’s necessary. W: You’re smart to buy it. At 45 dollars for three days, it is a good deal. M: Can I return the car in San Francisco? W: San Francisco? No, sir. We only have this office here. You will have to return it here. M: OK. It will be fun driving back down the coast. My girlfriend will like it. W: It’s a beautiful drive. M: Where are the keys? W: Just a moment, sir. We have to finish filling out the forms. Text 10 Malls are popular places for Americans to go. Some people spend so much time at malls that they are called “mall rats”. Mall rats shop until they drop in hundreds of stores under one roof. People like malls for many reasons. They feel safe because malls have police stations or private security guards. Parking is usually free, and the weather inside is always fine. The newest malls have beautiful rest areas with waterfalls and large green trees. The largest mall in the United States is the Mall of America in Minnesota. It covers million square feet. It has 350 stores, 8 night clubs, and a 7acre car park! There are parking spaces for 12750 cars. About 750000 people shop there every week. The first indoor mall in the United States was built in 1965 in Edina, Minnesota. People loved doing all their shopping in one place, so more and more malls were built around the country. Now, malls are like town centers where people e to do many things. They shop, of course, but they also eat food in courts and have food from all over the world. They see movies in movie theaters. Some people even get their daily exercise by doing the new sport of “mall walking”. Others go to malls just to meet friends. In some malls, people can see a doctor or a dentist and even attend church. In other words, people can do just about everything in malls. Now residents can actually live in their favorite shopping center.
