Many Chinese people find themselves bee more and more attached to western festivals. As living standards are improving, people, especially the young, celebrate these western festivals as their own. From some Chinese people’s celebration on the western festivals, we can feel the quick step of Chinese and Western cultural munication. Although the subjects of different festivals are different, cultural festival is a important and plex social phenomenon, for example, both of China and western countries memorate a historical figure or a important event, celebrate the ing year, pray for good harvest, etc. During festivals, people pray for happiness, prosperous, and express their persistent pursue for a certain kind of life. Traditional festival is a culture created and shared by the entire nation, and is a symbol of the national particularity. The cultural festivals would increase the cohesion of a nation. Larry A. Samovar wrote in his book that “the festiv al custom of every nation is established by popular usage and makes people’ life rich and colorful.”7 All of the festivals have a moved story or a beautiful folklore, and a fixed celebration. One of the interesting things to learn about a country is to know different kinds of holidays and festivals its people celebrate and to tell why they celebrate them. There are some similarities between American and Chinese holidays and festivals。 both China and western countries celebrate January 1, New Year’s Day. Labor Day and National Day are two other holidays that is shared in the two countries. B. Continuous Development of Chinese Traditional Festivals The Chinese traditional festivals is an important integral part of the Chinese culture, one of the carriers for inheritance of the Chinese national spirit, and a spiritual link for cementation of the feeling of the Chinese people both at home and overseas. The development process of China’s traditional festivals presents the clear picture of the nation’s historical and social development one after another. The rich contents reflect a panorama of the abundant cultural connotations and national spirit of Chinese culture. To protect Chinese national and folk culture, it is necessary to understand the national and folk culture at first. For instance, the festivals in China are undoubtedly an important integral part of the national and folk culture, covering every aspect of the national and folk culture, such as cultural space, place, popular literature, ritual ceremony, food and entertainments. China Immaterial Cultural Inheritance Protection Project is currently under way in China, that is to make effective protection of the nation’s traditional and national folk culture. The protection project includes promulgation of the law for Chinese immaterial cultural protection, formulation of the catalogue for Chinese immaterial cultural protection (at the national, provincial and country levels) and establishment of the immaterial cultural heritor system. This is one of the important measures in Chinese cultural construction and will inevitably exert farreaching influence on invigoration of the Chinese nationality. In a word, we should guide and roster Chinese festival culture with an active attitude. That is, to absorb the foreign reasonable factors and use it. At the same time, we should exam and reform the unsuitable things with an epoch perspective so that we can meet the ing of the universal civilization. Ⅴ. Conclusion There is no doubt that cultural festival is a bination of culture which plays an important role in intercultural munication. Festivals are established by popular usage and passed on from generation to generation as a result of regional environment and the development of history. Different cultural festivals e into being as the result of regional environment, the development of history and various religious beliefs. All of the social members celebrate different festivals in various ways which may lead to strengthen the social cohesiveness. However, different nations have different cultural characters which show the obvious individuality. So there is the important theories meaning and realistic meaning to research the differences of cultural festivals between China and western countries. With the continuous development of the globalized economy and the modern Information technology, cultural exchange has been more and more important. We should carry forward the excellent cultures of all ethnic groups of the country persistently and absorb what is advanced in other civilizations in order to make our Socialism flourished increasingly. Consequently, an increase in universality and a reduction in difference between cultures is an inevitable trend. It is no surprise to see phenomena characteristic of one culture existing in another. As a result, some people even fear that the world will bee a dull place when all the different nationalities behave exactly alike. It is essential for us to understand the differences cultural festivals between China and western countries. What’s more, we also should promote the development of the multiculture and Chinese traditional festivals.
