【正文】 arus, “What a million filaments. / The Peanutcrunching crowd / Shoves in to see / Them unwrap me hand in foot… /The big strip tease. /Gentleman , ladies”suggests sexual depravity. The poem Lesbos (1985:48) “I say I may be back./ You know what lies are for.”shows the sin of lying. In western philosophy, especially in Paul Tillich’s systematic theology, it is believed that finitude unites being with nonbeing. In other words, “existence is life and creation, and nonexistence is death that prises life” (Tillich Paul 15). So Plath’s preference for death and sequentially her longing for the rebirth are not contradictory. The abovementioned threes factors form the origin of her death consciousness. It is found in the most of poems that Plath is chained under the oppression too much. Oppression even makes her wilder in torment. In this regard, she deserves any reader’s sympathy. Her shameful deeds deserve to be forgiven by all generations. Everything in her poems seems reasonable. According to her, death is a good means to escape from her this hostile world. Death is a vehicle which she might take when she is faced with grievous moments. However, she pursues to be a phoenix. She emphasizes on making reactions to what kind of person she meets. In this aspect, she is better than those who advocate“donothing”. She is active in person and her poem sound positive.ConclusionContrary to what most critics viewpoints, Sylvia Plath is not a totally desperate poet. From the above analysis of her poems, it is not difficult to find that there is her special desire for life in her poems under the shield of a large number of abnormalities, anomalisms, and the dark phenomena such as death, which is what she peruses in words but not in real life. Though she is a victim who suffers from longtime affliction in life, and can hardly find a proper way to solve her problems, Plath never gives up her courage confronting with problems. She always tries to settle what she fears, and what she worries. Faced with all kinds of unfair social situation and pungencies, she is the patron saint of her spirits and a fierce dissenter against the patriarchal society. These attitudes decide that there is a hope in her poems, which is hidden behind the topic of death. In her eyes, death is a good way to solve problems, and rebirth after death can bring about new life, new hope. Therefore, she yearns for rebirth like phoenix. In short, most of her poems are not only a sheer denial to harsh reality, but also an expectation to the new world.Works Cited[1] Bitzolkais, Christina. Sylvia Plath and Theatre of Mourning.
