For instance, paint the town red, to roll out the red carpet for somebody, a red letter day etc. Generally speaking, red letter days mean Christmas Day or some other significant days, like May Day, because such important festivals in some Western countries are specially marked in red on the calendar. The Chinese people have a favor for the color “red”, and red stands for enthusiasm, happiness and joy. The cultural connotations of color words differ greatly because of different cultural issues, traditions and cultural psychology. In Chinese cultures, the symbolic meanings of color words are related to the feudal past, feudal superstition, primitive sciences and education. In Western culture the symbolic meanings of color words are affected by the Western nationality openness, science, education degree. The symbolic meanings are a few mysteries.
