【正文】 Luckil y before al of them were kil l ed, som e were taken to Bri tai n to im prove the envi ronm ent of the beautiful park whi ch bel onged to the Duke of Bedford. He l i ked them so m uch that he took them al l the way from Chi na to Bri tai n. The Mil u der l i ked the cool , wet weather i n Engl and and thei r num ber i ncreased year by year. As a resul t, when i n 1985 the governm ent of Chi na wanted to reintroduce the Mi lu deer, the Duke of Bedford was happy to hel p. The first deer came back to China to the N anhai zi Mi l u Park 20 kil ometers south of Beiji ng and the centre in Dafeng, Ji ngsu Provi nce. The deer centai nl y seem hapy to be back in Chi na because thei r num bers have grown rapi dl y. There are now so m any of them that a new park has been opened for them i n H ebei Province. At the mom ent the Mil u der l i ve i n centres where they are bei ng wel protected and care for . It i s hoped that one day there wi l be enough anim al s to l et them li ve i n the wi l d agai n. So Bri tai n hel ped Chi na by bringi ng back an anim al that had di sappeared from i ts hom el and. Thi s i s a good exam pl e of fri endshi p and understandi ng between these two countri es. Uni t 5 The band that wasn’t H ave you ever wanted to be part of a band as a fam ous singer or m usi ci ans? Have you ever dreamed of playi ng i n front of thousands of peopl e at a concert, at whi ch everyone i s clappi ng and appreci ati ng your m usic? Do you si ng Karaoke and pretend you are a fam ous si nger li ke Song Zuyi ng or Li u H uan? To be honest, a l ot of peopl e attach great i mportance to bei ng ri ch and fam ous. But just now do peopl e form a band? Many m usi cians m eet and form a band because they l ike to wri te and pl ay thei r own m usi c. They m ay start as a group of hi ghschool students, for whom practi si ng their m usi c i n som eone’s house i s the first step to fame. Som etim es they may pl ay to passersby i n the street or subway so that they can earn som e extra m oney for them selves or to pay for thei r i nstrum ents. Later they m ay gi ve performances i n pubs or cl ubs, for whi ch they are pai d i n cash. O f course they hope to m ake records i n a studio and sel l m il li ons of copi es to be e mil li onai res! H owever, there was one band that started i n a di ferent way. It was cal ed the Monkes and began as a TV show. The musi ci ans were to pl ay jokes on each other as wel l as pl ay m usi c, m ost of whi ch was based l oosel y on the Beatl es. The TV ani zer had pl anned to fi nd four musi ci ans who coul d act as wel as si ng. They put an adverti sem ent i n a newspaper l ooki ng for rock m usi ci ans, but they coul d onl y fi nd one who was good enough. They had to use actors for the other three m em bers of theband. As som e of these actors coul d not si ng wel enough, they had to rel y on other m usi cians to hel p them . So duri ng the broadcasts they just pretended to si ng. Anyhow thei r perform ances were hum orous enough to be copi ed by other groups. They were so popul ar that their fans form ed cl ubs i n order to get m ore famil i ar with them. Each week on TV, the Monkees woul d pl ay and si ng songs wri tten by other m usici ans. H owever, after a year or so i n which they becam e more serious about their work, the Monkees started to pl ay and si ng thei r own songs li ke a real band. Then they produced their own records and started touri ng and pl ayi ng their own m usic. In the USA they becam e even more popular than the Beatl es and sol d even m ore records. The band broke up about 1970, but hapil y they reunited i n the m id1980s. They produced a new record i n 1996, wi th whi ch they cel ebrated their form er tim e as a real band. Freddy the frog（Ⅱ） N ot l ong after Freddy and the band becam e fam ous, they vi si ted Bri tain on a bri ef tour. Fans showed their devoti on by wai ti ng for hours to get tickets for thei r concerts . Freddy was now qui te confi dent when he went i nto a concert hal l. H e enjoyed si nging and al l the congratulati ons afterwards! Hi s m ost exci ti ng i nvi tati on was to perform on a TV program me cal led “ Top of pops “. H e had to go to London, wear an expensi ve suit and gi ve a perform ance to a TV cam era. It felt very strange. But as soon as the programme was over, the tel ephones which were in the sam e room started ringing. Everybody was aski ng when they coul d see Freddy and hi s band agai n. They were trul y stars. Then thi ngs went wrong. Freddy and his band coul d not go out anywhere wi thout being fol lowed. Even when they wore sunglasses or beards people recognized them . Fans found them even when they went into toil et. They tri ed to hi de in the reading rooms of li braries, but i t was useless. Someone was al ways there! Thei r personal li fe was regularl y discussed by people who di d not know them but talked as if they cl ose fri ends. At last feeli ng very upset and sensi tive, Fredy and his band realized that they must leave the country before it became to painful for them .
