hese figures are averages for the regions and if we look at individual provinces, we find significant variations within regions, in some cases greater than the differences in the averages across regions. This being said, we can offer a number of conclusions from these numbers. 1. In the country as a whole and in every region, the primary sector has bee less important in terms of share of GDP since 1994. 2. In the country overall and in every region, the manufacturing sector has bee more important or stayed the same. 3. In the country overall, and in every region, the service sector has grown more important. The primary sector is smallest in the coastal region and largest in the western region. The secondary sector is largest in the coastal region and smallest in the western region although by 2020, the central region had caught up to the coastal region . The service sector is largest in the coastal region and smallest in the central region. All regions have begun to experience more industrialization, except the coastal region which started ahead of the others and has simply maintained its share for the manufacturing sector. The growth in the service sector has been the greatest in all regions since 1994. There is no region in which the service sector has e to dominate GDP as yet, although there are some individual provinces/cities where it is more than 50%, notably Beijing and Shanghai. Productivity is found to have increased significantly since 2020, ., since China joined the WTO.
