They wer e al hungry and t he f ood smel t good. Aft er a wonder ful meal, they told st ories and sang songs by the camp fi re. But some ti me later i t began to r ai n. The boys f el t t i r ed so t hey pet out the fi re and crept i nt o thei r tent . Thei r sleepi ngbags were warm and fort able, so t hey al l slept soundly. I n the middl e of t he night, two boys woke up and began shouti ng. The tent was full of water! They al leapt out of t heir sleepingbags and hur ri ed outsi de. It was r ai ni ng heavil y and they found that a str eam had f ormed in the fi el d. The str eam wound i ts way across t he f ield and t hen fl owed ri ght under their tent ! Leson28 No parking 禁止停車 Jasper Whi te is one of those rar e people who bel ieves in ancient myths. He has j ust bought a new house i n the ci ty, but ever since he moved in, he has had t roubl e wi th motori st s. whe n he returns home at night, he always f inds t hat someone has par ked a car outside his gate. Because of this, he has not been abl e to get his own car i nt o hi s garage even once. Jasper has put up39。 No Parking39。 signs out si de his gat e, but t hese have not had a ny ef fect . Now he has put an ugly stone head over the gat e. It is one of the ugl iest faces I have ever sen. I asked him what it was and he told me t hat it was Medusa, the Gon. Jasper hopes that she wi l turn motori st s t o st one. But none of them has been turned to st one yet ! Leson29 Taxi! 出租汽車！ Captain Ben Fawcet has bought an unusual t axi and has begun a new ser vi ce. The 39。taxi39。 is a smal Swiss aeropl ane cal led a 39。Pi latus Por ter39。. Thi s wonder ful plane can car y seven passengers. The most sur pr ising thing about it , however, is that i t can land anywher e: on snow, water, or even on a pl oughed fi el d. Capt ai n Fawcet 39。s fi rst pasenger was a doct or who fl ew f rom Bi rmingham t o a lonely vil lage i n the Welsh mount ai ns. Si nce then, Captain Fawcet has f lown pasenger s to many unusual pl aces. Once he landed on the roof of a block of fl ats and on anot her occasion, he landed i n a deser ted car park. Captain Fawcet t has just refused a strange r equest f rom a busi nesman. The man wanted to f ly t o Rockal , a l onely island i n the Atl anti c Ocean, but Captain Fawcet di d not take him because t he t rip was too dangerous. Lesson30 Football or polo? 足 gar den is l ar ger than Joe39。s. Bi l wor ks harder t han Joe and grows mor e fl owers and vegetables, but Joe39。s garden is mor e interest ing. He has made neat pat hs and has buil t a wooden br idge over a pool. I li ke gardens too, but I do not like har d wor k. Ever y year I ent er for the gar den pet it on too, and I always win a l it le prize for the wor st gar den in t he t own! Lesson 9 A col d wel e 冷遇 On Wednesday eveni ng, we went to the Town Hal . I t was the last day of the year and a large cr owd of peopl e had gathered under the Town Hal clock. It woul d str ike twelve in twenty minutes39。 ti me. Fift en minutes pased and then, at fi ve t o twelve, the clock stopped. The big mi nut e hand did not move. We wait ed and wait ed, but nothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted, 39。I t39。s t wo minut es past twelve! The clock has st opped!39。 I looked at my watch. It was t rue. The bi g cl ock refused to wele the New Year.
