The framework suggests that online munities can play an important role in improving the market liquidity in situations involving very plex productdescription and valueassessment characteristics. The framework also suggests that consortia marketplaces are relevant only in the case of items with low asset specificity. Typically, a consortia marketplace focuses on capturing a majority of the trading volume in the industry. It reduces opportunities for negotiations and squeezes margins.
