【正文】 Course paper of Chongqing University The differences in friendship concept between Chinese and western students Class: 651 Name: Lin Yiq Student ID:20xx1843 Supervisor: Major： Software engineering School of Foreign Languages of Cultures June,20xx ABSTRACT In contemporary society, with the fast development of science and technology and the trend of globalization, intercultural contact is being more and more frequent. However, the values and behaviors of a particular culture may not be understandable or acceptable in another culture. Thus it is necessary for us to understand the differences in friendship concept between Chinese students and western students. A research is carried out through questionnaire to find the main differences. From the data it is easy to find that Chinese attach more importance to friendship than the west, and Chinese long for lasting, stable friendship, and Chinese hold the view that it is normal to help friends and have higher expectation to friends than westerners. Only when we realize the differences can we understand cultural differences and be more tolerant of cultural differences and respect different cultures. INTRODUCTION With the development of Reform and Open policy and economic globalization, China has been increasingly frequently municating with western countries, especially with the United States that is to reach a new stage. Because of the difference in social and cultural background, the understanding of friendship in western country is quite different from that in China. It’s no denying that we should find out the differences between western countries’ friendship and Chinese friendship, and be aware of this difference and be tolerant of culture difference. This course paper will demonstrate the difference from three aspects: the importance of friendship, the way to establish and maintain friendship, responsibility friends should take (Liu, 20xx).
