The day of the peti ti on was rather coul d for m y l egs and m y speci al oi l began to fteeze. I paused before I jum ped from the starting pl ace on a l i tl e spaceshi p but then I began m y perform ance. At the correct m om ent I tri ed to open my parachute but there was a probl em .It onl y opened a li ttle . In stead of fl yi ng softl y to earth I began to fal l faster and faster so that I coul d not turn , di ve, ci rcl e or dance. My heart stopped beati ng as I l anded heavil y on a m ountai n covered wi th snow. Thi s i s why I am wri ti ng to you from m y hospi tal bed wi th two broken l egs and a fragil e head. I di d not wi n anythi ng at the Ol ympi c after al l. I need the factory to buil d m e two new legs and an even bigger head. Then I will be able to pete once more . Daiasy responded immediately. “I’d like to see some endangered wildlife,”she said. “pl ease take me to a distant land where I can find the animal that gave fur to make this sweater. ”At once the carpet flew away and took her to Tibet. There Daisy saw an antelope looking sad. It said,“We are being killed for the wool beneath our fur is being used to make sweaters for people like you . As a reasult,we are now an endangered species.”At that Daisy cried,“I’m sorry I didn’t know that. I wonder what is being done to help you. Flying carpet,please show me a place where there’s some wildlife protection. ” The fl yi ng carpet travel l ed so fast that next m i nute they were in Zim babwe. Daisy turned around and found that she was being watched by an elephant.“H ave you e to take my photo?”it asked. In relief Daisy burst into laughter. “Don’t laugh,”said the elephant,“We used to be an endangered species. Farmers hunted us without mercy. They said we destroyed their farms,and m oney from touri sts onl y went to the l arge tour pani es. So the government deci ded to help. They al owed touri sts to hunt onl y a certai n num ber of anim al s i f they pai d the farm ow the farm ers are happy and our num bers are i ncreasi ng. So good thi ngs are bei ng done here to save local wildlife. ” Daisy smiled.“That’s good news. It shows the importance of wildlife protection,but I’d like to help as the WWF suggests.”The carpet Rose against and alm ost at once they were i n a thi ck rai nforest. The carpet fl ew hom e. As they l anded, thi ngs begi n to disappear. Two mi nutes later everythi ng had gone the m onkey,too. So Daisy was not able to make her new drug. The m ost fam ous of these anim als are di nosaurs. They l i ved on the earth tens m il li on of years ago, l ong before hum ans cam e i nto bei ng and their future seem ed secure at that tim e. There were m any different ki nds of di nosaur and a num ber of them used to li ve i n chi na. The eggs of twentyfi ve speci es have been found i n Xi xi a County, N anyang, H enan provi ot l ong ago a rare new speci es of bi rdli ke di nosaur was discovered i n Country, li aoni ng Provi nce. When scientists i nspected the bones, they were surpri sed to find that these di nosaurs could not onl y run l ike the others but al so clim b trees. They l earned thi s from the way the bones were joi ned together. Di nosaurs di ed out suddenl y about 65mi l ion years ago. Som e sci enti sts think i t came after an unexpected i nci dent when a huge rock from space hi t the earth and put too m uch dust i nto the ai r. Others thi nk the earth got to hot for the di nosaurs to li ve on any m obody knows for sure why and how di nosaur di sappeared from the earth i n such a short tim e.
