They depend largely on farming, whose staple food is grain and vegetables, byproduct meat. The Chinese people are good at cooking, but they don’t like cheese and milk. However, in western countries, animal husbandry accounts a large proportion of the traditional agriculture. The developed animal husbandry provides the westerners with profound meat and milk. It is well known that China is a country full of bamboo, which is the raw material for chopsticks. That’s why Chinese people are so obsessed with using chopsticks. It not only makes our life more convenient but also carries economic and cultural connotations. On the contrary, in most western countries, people enjoy eating something like bread, meat. So it’s natural for them to use knife and fork as their main tableware. IV. The attitudes that we should hold to the differences of table culture between China and western countries In crosscultural tradition, the parties involved should respect the culture and traditions of other parties. With the increasing integration between all the countries, contacts between people bee closer. The etiquette is also attached to more and more importance, especially the importance of table cultures. In different countries, a wide range of cultures determines the differences of their national table cultures. Through these table cultures, we can finally see that the etiquette is the ideological content and ceremony is its manifestation. Whether it is oriental diet or western diet, each has a profound cultural and social foundation. If they lose the foundations, they will be faced up with a crisis. The differences of eating habits between China and western countries are caused by different factors, such as cultures, custom, atmosphere, historical connotations, nutritional values and economic conditions. If we can learn from each other, we can create a kind of diet habits which are both in line with China’s national conditions, and more conducive to our health. With more and more frequent international exchanges, the world is getting smaller. However, the tightening of the world on time and space does not make people’s psychological distance automatically disappear. Crosscultural munication is often affected by different dietary and cultural habits. 22 In some cases, this cultural friction can not be avoided. Therefore, in the process of crosscultural munication, we should establish a value of unity to try to understand each other and to achieve mutual adaptation. Under the circumstance of globalization, table cultures of China and western countries are bound to take on new changes in the collision.
