Now, I am going to take your left leg and see how far you can raise it. Keep the knee straight. Does that hurt at all? W: Yes, just a little. M: Let me just call Mr. Bronson. (Text 4) W: I can hardly hear the singer. Those fans are so crazy. They are so loud. M: Aren’ t you excited? W: No! My brother dragged me here. (Text 5) M: Would you like to have lunch with us? W: I’ d love to, but I have to help John with his math problem right now. M: Would you like me to give you a lift? W: No, thanks. His home is not far and I can walk there. (Text6) M: Oh, let’ s just go in for a minute, I’ m hungry. W: Ok, but just a snack. We’ re eating supper at home tonight. M: Let’ s get some milk and bread. W: I don’ t really like milk. How about a soda? M: They say CocaCola makes you fat. Milk is healthier. W: Oh, if you want to be healthy, buy yoghurt. And put back those butter cookies you have in your hand. M: Alright! I’ ll get some juice. How about this bread? W: It looks fresh, but we’ ll be home soon. M: But I’ m hungry now! I’ ll get the bread and eat it at the bus stop. W: Don’ t fet the juice. M: I’ ll get two bottles, one for you and one for me. W: Thanks, Now let’ s go. (Text 7) W: Why don’ t you sit down? Now, there are several questions I must ask, if you don’ t mind. M: Not at all. Go ahead. W: What is the purpose of your visit to the States? M: I’ m going to attend a conference on lung cancer research. W: When and where is this conference being held? M: It’ s being held in the first three weeks of February at the University of Stanford in California. W: Who will pay your expenses? M: The University of California. Here is the official letter of invitation. W: I see. Fine. When do you want to go? M: I’ d like to leave in midJanuary if my passport is ready by then. W: That shouldn’ t be difficult. Why don’ t you phone me about January 10th? I should be able to give you an answer then. M: Thank you. (Text8) W: Dad, I need a few supplies for school, and I was wondering if…… M: Yeah. There are a couple of pencils and an eraser in the kitchen drawer, I think. W: Dad, I’ m in Grade 8 now, and I need real supplies for my demanding classes. M: Oh, so you need a ruler, too? W: Dad, I need some hightech stuff like a calculator and a laptop puter. M: Uh. I didn’ t have any of that when I was in middle school, and I did just fine. W: Yeah, and there weren ’ t any cars, either. Things are a lot more progressive now. M: Great. My daughter will be playing video games in class. W: Dad. M: Okay. How much are these things going to cost me? W: Well, I found a puter at the store for only $299. M: Well, you’ ll be supporting me in my old age, so, I guess so. When do you need it? W: Now, right now. Mom’ s already waiting in the car for us. She said she would buy me an ice cream if I could talk you into buying it for me today. (Text 9) M: I heard from my friend that you have a lot of classic guitars here. I love guitars, and I am a big music fan. Do you think that you could show me some of your more special pieces? W: Sure! We have a large number of old guitars. Most of them are Fenders, and almost all of them were guitars that the great guitar players liked to use. For example, we have the guitar that Jimi Hendrix played in the 1970s. M: Jimi Hendrix was okay, but I’ m really more of a Jimmy Page fan. Do you have any of his old guitars? W: Yes, we do. We have the Fender that he played at his famous 1975 show in Chicago. It’ s priced a little higher than our other guitars, though, because he signed the back of it. M: Wow. That is absolutely amazing. There’ s no price you can put on something like that. A real fan would pay anything just to have that. W: Well, would you like to take it home, sir? M: Not this time, thank you. I came by your shop because I was curious about your classic guitars. But now that I am here, I think I will buy a small guitar for my nephew to learn to play. Do you have anything like that here? W: Certainly, I’ ll be happy to show you that now, if you’ d like. If you ever have any other questions about our collection of classic guitars, please feel free to visit our website or e by the shop any time. (Text 10) Back to the news. Last Friday a storm hit two villages destroying fourteen houses. Seven others were so badly damaged that their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows. One person was killed, and nine were badly injured and taken to hospital. A number of other people received small injuries. Altogether over two hundred were left homeless as a result of the storm. A farmer said the storm began early in the morning and lasted over an hour. He was in the kitchen with his wife and his children when they heard a loud noise. A few minutes later their house fell down on top of them. They managed to climb out, but then he saw that one of his children was missing. He went back inside and found him safe but very frightened. A woman said that her husband had just left for work when she noticed that her house was shaking. She rushed outside immediately with her children. There was no time for her to take anything. A few minutes later, the roof came down. Soldiers went to the area to help the people in trouble. you have any questions after my speech.
