The parameters measured include heat release rate,time to ignition, smoke, and CO/CO2yields, on the basis of which fire hazardanalysis is carried out. By injectionmolding different burnrated polypropyleneposites into television backenclosures and testing them in a fullscalecone calorimeter, we find that the one formulation of V0 rating in the verticalburning test shows excellent flame retardance.KEY WORDS: flame retardant, polypropylene, cone calorimeter, hazard.INTRODUCTIONPOLYPROPYLENE (PP) HAS gained wide application in such a great numberof fields that its end products cover numerous areas such as electronics,electrical appliances, textiles, furniture, transportation, architecture,and so on. However, due to its high flammability, substantial researchhas been carried out to improve its flame retardance. Amongthe halogenfree flame retardation methods of PP, severalapproaches are gaining growing attention: polymerlayered silicatenanoposites (PLSNs) [1,2], intumescent flame retardants (IFR)[3,4], and blending PP with different nonflammable polymers or metaloxides [5,6].Therefore, it makes sense to evaluate the fire hazard of thesynthesized materials so as to optimize the production of flameretardant PP and reduce the damage caused by fire. Fire risk ofmaterials is the potential likelihood of burning and the extent of hazardsresulting from burning of the material, such as ignitability, sustainmentand propagation of bustion, heat release, smoke/gas production,smoke obscuration, gas toxicity, and so on.In this study, we prepared five flame retardant PP positeswith different constituents and preparation methods based on ourprevious research [3,7,8], which were then subjected to UL94 tests anddifferently scaled cone ca
