clearly that Byron imitated Psalm 137. The first and second lines of the two poems are the same in language and structure. But there are some changes in Byrons poem, so that people would think of Psalm, and his poem is innovative. In Psalm “l(fā)et my right hand forget her canning” and in Byrons poem “May this right hand be witherd for ever,”are very similar, too. Israelis did not resign to be insulted and cried” Jerusalem, if I forget you, my right hand will never playing and singing” Byrons poem also shouted I would prefer the right hand never wilt, but we will not harp acpaniment for the alien! Obviously, the language of the Bibles Authorized Version had entered into the poems bone marrow of Byron. !星酷網(wǎng)! Miltons Paradise Lost imitated the Bible in many places. For example:And god said,”Let the waters generateReptile with spawn abundant, living soulAnd let Fowl fly above the earth, with wingsDisplayes on the open firmanment of heaven!” These four lines have simple, plain language style as well as Authorized Version of the Bible, Genesis. The Bible has 2000years history. With such a long history, it is not weakened because of that the Bible has high literary value,which is not only the value of the Bible itself, but also the influence of Bible on the world literature. The influence of Bible on British literature is only one aspect. Clearly, the Bibles influence on literature is worthy of extensive and indepth research and exploration. 4. Conclusion There are three main reasons that the Bible has affected the British literature. First, the Bible has a great influence on almost all westerners lives. Most westerners believe in Christianity. The Bible is the book of Christianity. The Christians believe that the Bible has the only authority in their lives. They cannot break any rules in the Bible. If they follow the Bible, everyday could be colorful and have the true meaning. The Bible has affected westerners so much that it is natural that many British writers use the Bible in their works. Second, the Bible is run through by the spirit of mercy and love. Christianity is the love religious there are so many phrases about mercy and love in the Bible. On literature, mercy and love is the most important theme. So quoting the Bibles phrases and stories to express the writing purpose is reasonable. Third, English is one of the languages that have been wildly used in the world it plays an important part in the world. But language system has often relates to a certain culture system. In western countries, the Bible has played the most important part in the culture system, so using the Bibles languages in literature creating and life is acceptable.When we talk about the Bible, many Chinese readers may keep a distance because it is the book of Christianity. It is honest that the Bible has its mysterious sides. But when we think it over, we can find that the Bible is not only an epic book which just records the history of ancient Hebrews but also a philosophy works with deep meaning. In the progress of the cultural development in the west, its influence is unique. Its ideas and philosophy has bee important ponents of humans mind. Its language has deeply permeated into the humans mon language. It has bee the basic material treasure of western literature. When we are appreciating British literature, it is reasonable to say the works reflect the Bible. So research on the ways of influence of the Bible on British writings can help us understand British literature better.
