The author of this paper is going to introduce two mon ways of cooperative study in primary English class. Pair worksThis activity requires the students to work in pairs. It is often used in practicing a dialogue or a pattern drill. When a new drill or a conversation is learned, some interesting topics or familiar situations should be given to each pair for practicing the pattern drills they just covered, and several groups or volunteers may be chosen to perform their conversation in front of the class. From the experience of the author, such activity can greatly arouse students’ interests in learning English, for they can show themselves in this way. Checking each otherPrimary English teachers always ask students to spell the words, however, it is hard for the teacher to check all of the students, and therefore, it provides a good way to ask students to check their spelling each other in a small group. If there is anyone in the group that cannot spell it, other members should help him/her until everyone in the group finishes it perfectly. This way also fixes for checking the homework or the workbooks. By doing this, students learn how others perform and how they should improve. Moreover, students learn how to help each other in English learning.From the above illustration, we will know adopting cooperative learning can develop student’s petence for studying independently and their cooperative spirit. For this reason, probing the use of group work in English teaching and learning is obviously important. Teaching gamesGame is an activity which can make people keep balance in heart and health. Modern pedagogy takes games as one of the important teaching means, which can pass on knowledge, develop skills and ability in English teaching。 games have been paid more and more attention to.Students in primary school are very active, and they love games. Therefore, adopting teaching games in primary English class can motivate students effective. In the following, the author of this paper is going to introduce two games that are famous with the pupils.1) A game of building a sequenceThis game is always played in secondly or high schools. However, the author of this paper holds the idea that student in primary school such as those from Grade Four to Grade Six can also play this game. In primary English class, students can use easy vocabulary to build a sequence. For example:Apple – ear – red – dog – go – open – nice – egg …It helps students to review the words they have learnt and stimulate the vocabulary. 2) Roleplaying game “Roleplay is an activity (esp. in language teaching) in which a person acts a part.” Here we discuss its meaning in pedagogy. It is a mon language learning activity where students play different roles and interact from the point of view of the roles they play. Roleplay is valuable in a language classroom for several reasons:1) It is motivating。 2) Students interact in small groups so that they have less pressure。3) Students have the chance to practice the newly learned language。 4) There is enough room for creativity.Roleplaying is an extremely valuable method for English learning. It encourages thinking and creativity, lets students develop and practice new language and behavioral skills in a relatively nonthreatening setting, and can create the motivation and involvement necessary for learning to occur. The author of this paper concludes the advantages of roleplaying game as follows:First, it stimulates students’ interests and activates classroom climate to keep students engaged in class: With roleplaying, students act out certain situations. Teachers generally try to make these situations fun and interesting. This motivates students in learning, creates a real munication situation, and offers learners plenty of opportunities to practice.Second, it promotes interpersonal relationships: Roleplay has also kept accepted to improve interpersonal relationship among students. Roleplay pairs or groups help students establish and maintain friendships with peers. Students who are isolated or alienated from their peers and who do not have friends are more likely to be at risk for violent or destructive behavior in society than those who experience social support and a sense of belonging. “To some extent, this interpersonal relationship also promotes their academic achievements. In addition, skills of improving interpersonal relationship with other peers are the foundation for the success in their social career in future.” Roleplaying also has been linked to increases in selfesteem, attendance, time on task, enjoyment of school and classes, as well as a decrease in dependence on the teacher.To sum up, teaching games are good for making the classroom atmosphere active. It can make nervous and monotonous English learning easy and pleasant. It not only can make students tireless, but also can arouse their initiative. Games can make people learn much easier while playing games, students will not feel ashamed any more.
