【正文】 lete independence of emotion. Jane Eyre—a woman who pursues independence 10 As we know, Jane Eyre is an outstanding girl to reflect her independence. For Jane, she is an orphan without brothers and sisters, she has no relatives after her Uncle Reeds`s death. What is worse, the mistress even the servants in the house do not like her very much. Under that circumstance, Jane must make the personality of independence although at her immature age, she must learn to protect herself and take good care of herself. When she is sent to the girl`s school, the hypocritical headmaster and women teachers pay no sympathy for the girls, the school rulings are strict and abnormal, the girls have little food and thin clothes. After Jane`s good friend Helen Burn`s death of illness, she has no choice but to survive on her own strong independence under the bad living environment. Jane Eyre—a woman who pursues true love Throughout Jane Eyre`s love story, it reflects the author`s attitude towards love. Jane Eyre meets the master, Mr. Rochester when she leaves for Thorn field Hall. He is a hardy man because his unhappy marriage, he marries Miss Mason, the woman has mean mind and extremely bad temper and bees mad in four years after their marriage. When Mr. Rochester gets the first sight of Jane Eyre, he feels there is something new, a new vitality and a new feeling. The process from strangers to love each other, Rochester is deeply conquered by the kind of rebellious spirit and the equality of selfesteem of Jane Eyre. Mr. Rochester`s grace personality and vast knowledge attracts Jane Eyre very much. When Jane Eyre finds that she falls in love with Mr. Rochester after such a disparity of social status, she has the courage to love because she believes that people are equal in spirit. Jane Eyre says: “Do you think I am poor, obscure, plain and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! I have as much soul as you, and fill as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have 11 made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is for me to leave you, and we stood at God`s feet, equal, as we are!” I can say, the love of Jane is great and ordinary. Jane Eyre is great, because she loves Mr. Rochester not for any of the utilitarian, even later, she aimlessly leaves Thorn field alone, she does not take anything, including the pearls necklace Mr. Rochester gives her as a gift. Jane Eyre is ordinary, because her love is like ordinary people. She pursues true love from the beginning and finally gets her true love. 5. Conclusion This thesis mainly talks about an analysis of Jane Eyre’s character in Jane Eyre. Firstly it introduces Charlotte Bronte and Charlotte Bronte’s literary achievements and her masterpiece Jane Eyre, which mainly includes the subject and plot. Secondly, it introduces the main role Jane Eyre’s character in Jane Eyre and the character mainly includes independence,equality and rebellion. Thirdly, it introduces the development of Jane Eyre’s character, including the life Jane Eyre lives at Gateshead, Lowood Institution and Thornfield. Fourthly, the paper shows us a “pursuing” woman, who spents most of her lifetime to pursue independence,equality and true love. Through the analysis of Jane Eyre’s character in Jane Eyre, the readers could not only have a better understanding of the character of Jane Eyre but also the writer Charlotte Bronte and her masterpiece Jane Eyre. This paper, however, is just a tentative research on the analysis of Jane Eyre’s character, so there are some limitations and unsolved problems. For example, there may be some other characters which need further studies and this paper may still lack of a deeper and more systematic study of Jane Eyre’s character and is not profound enough, the paper should pays more attention to Jane Eyre’s character development. However, to some degree, the paper may lay a foundation for further studies about this subject, which can benefit both the writers and the readers to a large degree. It is expected that more 12 efforts will be put on the subject, which will do innumerable benefits to people. It is also expected that the readers could find the different characters of Jane Eyre from different perspectives.
