In term of news translation, translating from English into Chinese is the monest one while translating Chinese news into other languages, such as French, Germany, Japanese and some languages of minority nationalities, is not attached much importance.Third, most of the news translation studies written translation rather than oral interpenetration. So a researcher on news translation should recognize the features of news translation and do systematic research so as to find the law of news translation. Based on this purpose, this thesis will have an introduction to the English news and to get a deep understanding of English news features so as to help the journalists or translators to translate English news of high quality. Also, the thesis lists some important elements that influence news translation and analyzes how to make a good use of words, sentences, punctuation, and figure of speech in news translation. And then it discusses the structure of news translation including headline, lead, and body so as to indicate that having a good knowledge about news and news translation is essential. Chapter 1 Brief Introduction of English News Classification of NewsNews can be classified into different types. According to the contents, news involves politics, economies, technology, and culture and so on. News also can be classified in quality: hard news and soft news. In specific, hard news and soft news are sorted by timeliness, technique of expression and use of the language. Hard news pays more attention on the exact truth, so the contents of the hard news are serious and objective. It’s concentrate on the politic, economic news which is thoughtful and instructive. The words of hard news should be concise and accurate. Soft news also should be objective while it is not timesensitive. It is less timely and has little connection with people’s immediate interests. Compared to the hard news, it is easier for the soft news to attract people’s attention. The theme is broader and the contents are more lively and vivid. The reader can be closer to the author and unconsciously accept the ideas of the writer.Soft news plays a role in broadening readers’ horizon, providing something interesting and molding people’s temperament. Based on the forms, there are news, features, mentaries and columns. FeaturesAn obvious characteristic of features is that it does not need to adhere to the strict form of the new report. Features need a particular perspective. Vivid and detailed descriptions appear in features which, to a certain degree, are subjective. This will build a special atmosphere and evoke readers’ sympathy. Human interesting in features will also have the same effect of improving readers’ interests. News translation has distinctive language features. The standards, methods and principles of the news translation all have its own features. The choice of the words can not be mechanical. Choose proper words in accordance with the types of writing and add some explanatory words that the readers can have a better understanding. Features are relatively plex not only the contents but also the sentences. There are lots of long sentences which contain rich information and show a plicated logical relation.
