While the heart includes many technological and biomedical firsts, perhaps the biggest breakthrough is the heart’s state oftheart use of software and sensors to adjust its own performance. The pany entrusted IBM to develop the software and subsystems key to their success. Depending on the patient’s level of exertion, the heart adjusts its speed and blood pressure to feed more oxygen to the body.
