With its superior performance, it has been widely used in various sectors of national economy. Especially for the mine of high yield and high efficiency, belt conveyor has bee the key equipment of mechatronics technology in highefficient coal exploitation. At present, long distance, high power, large capacity, large obliquity are the direction of belt conveyor’s development. These developments will make it more widely used in the coal industry.The key technology of large slope angle and downward belt conveyor design is to maintain the stability of the material during operation and the rational design of brake system. In order to maintain the stability of the material , this design uses the herringbone shallow patterned belt and double row Vshaped roller group. To prevent the occurrence of runaway,a new kind of braking method is adopted in the design, according to the principle of various existing braking methods. This is a method that a generator is used in bination with a brake. And while braking, mechanical energy can be converted to electrical energy. The design focuses on the design of transmission system. It is posed of six parts: motor, generator, clutch, brake, coupling and drive roller. Taking into account the limited underground space, the brake system and drive system is designed into a whole, shareing a speed change mechanism. And according to the related parameters, some selection of the other ponents are maked in the design. The design of belt conveyor is pleted finally.In this design a new idea is proposed to the brake of the belt conveyor.
