路基作為一種土工結(jié)構(gòu)物，是鋪設(shè)鐵路軌道的基礎(chǔ)。為了確保列車能夠安全、平穩(wěn)地運行，路基應(yīng)當具有強度高，剛度大，穩(wěn)定性及耐久性良好，不易變形等優(yōu)良特性。路基主要是由松散的土（石）材料構(gòu)成，或直接以 土（石）作建筑材料（例如路堤）；或者直接鋪設(shè)在地層上（例如路塹）。因此，路基的強度和穩(wěn)定性與土的成因、成分、結(jié)構(gòu)、構(gòu)造以及土的各種力學性質(zhì)，并與路基所在的地層的各種地質(zhì)條件都有著非常密切的關(guān)系。路基是以天然土石修筑而成的條形建筑物，分布在廣闊的地區(qū)，處在各種地質(zhì)、水文、氣候等及其復雜的自然條件下，它的強度及穩(wěn)定性受到地質(zhì)條件以及雨、雪、水流、氣溫等自然因素的影響。路基的工程數(shù)量非
