現(xiàn)代移動(dòng)通信是一門復(fù)雜的高新技術(shù),不但集中了無線通信和有線通信的最新技術(shù)成就,而且集中了網(wǎng)絡(luò)接收和計(jì)算機(jī)技術(shù)的許多成果。目前,移動(dòng)通信已從模擬通信發(fā)展到了數(shù)字移動(dòng)通信階段,并且正朝著個(gè)人通信這一更高級(jí)階段發(fā)展。未來移動(dòng)通信的目標(biāo)是,能在任何時(shí)間、 任何地點(diǎn)、向任何人提供快速可靠的通信服務(wù)。 1978 年底,美國(guó)貝爾實(shí)驗(yàn)室研制成功先進(jìn)移動(dòng)電話系統(tǒng)( AMPS),建成了蜂窩狀模擬移動(dòng)通信網(wǎng),大大提高了系統(tǒng)容量。與此同時(shí),其它發(fā)達(dá)國(guó)家也相繼開發(fā)出蜂窩式公共移動(dòng)通信網(wǎng)。這一階段的特點(diǎn)是蜂窩移動(dòng)通信網(wǎng)成為實(shí)用系統(tǒng),并在世界各地迅速發(fā)展 ,這個(gè)系統(tǒng)一般被當(dāng)作是第一代移動(dòng)通信系統(tǒng)。 從 20 世紀(jì) 80 年代中期開始,數(shù)字移動(dòng)通信系統(tǒng)進(jìn)入發(fā)展和成熟時(shí)期。蜂窩模擬網(wǎng)的容量已不能滿足日益增長(zhǎng)的移動(dòng)用戶的需求。 80年代中期,
