【正文】 ion of “friendship” means the deep feeling and close relationship between friends. There is the old saying “the scholar dies for his bosom friend”, the prototype figure is Yu Rang, he risked his life to kill a king in order to revenge for his friends,finally he suicided but he didn’t regret at all. This shows that Chinese always view friendship as a mutual trust, confidential relationship. Whilein western culture, their friendship is more casual, maybe arose from a meeting and talking. They think lover is someone who might spent a life time with you, Lover is more important than friends. Figure 2 As is shown in Figure 2, most Chinese students think that it takes over five times to make friends. While most foreign students think that it takes over twice to make friends. People in western countries spent less time making friends than Chinese. It is easy to conclude that the time of establishing and maintaining friendship is China, if you want to build up a strong friendship with someone, it will cost you lots of time and energy. Only after frequent munication, can both parties bee intimate. As the old saying goes, “time reveals a person’ heart”. Chinese have high inner defense to strangers, but the inner line of defense will decrease after having more , when westerners establish friendly relations with strangers, the inner line of defense is very low, after initial development of such friendly relations to establish, the inner wall will continue to more expect to have an everlasting friendship. Most of them have some steadfast friendship which last in all their life. In addition, they hold the belief that true friendship stand up the test, regardless of changes in time and space. On the contrary western friendship is relevant to specific condition and situation. Once the environment change, the friendship won’t last forever. They think that sometimes friendship process is short, limited. When resetting to a new place, they will make new friends constantly. And meantime they will lose contact of old friends. Then the old friendship will disappear, because of the long distance and lack of connection. Figure 3 Figure 4 As is shown from figure 3, when having trouble, Chinese students would like to solve the problem by themselves, if the problem is beyond their power, they tend to seek help from friends. And 70% of Chinese students think that they would like to give help to certain friends without asking for return. Chinese endow friendship with great responsibility. They have high expectations to friends. For them the purpose of making friends is to mutual help and look out for each other. In Chinese culture, you must prepare for taking risk and sacrificing the old saying goes, depend on parents when at home, depend on friends when outside and a friend in need is friends indeed.
