IntroductionWith the increasing munication between different nations, above all China and western countries, some cultural phenomenon about different nations has been being more and more important. At the same time, Chinese people want to know more about the western culture while western people also want to know more about China and Chinese culture. But the fact is that China and western countries have different customs, traditions, conventions and ideologies, so even the same thing in different nations may stands for different meanings. Such as the word “Dragon”, “Phoenix”, even “Cat” and “Dog” between Chinese and western culture. “Dog” is popular with both Chinese and western people .In the Western world, the animal is given honor to be referred to as “man39。 s life” and “son of a bitch. However, in far more expressions as“Love me,love my dog ”,“Every dog has its day”, “He worked like a dog”,and “You lucky dog”,the word“dog” is used in an obviously mendatory sense.[1] Liu Tiehong/“Are the Dogs Barking the Same around the World?” (劉鐵虹,女,內(nèi)蒙古科技大學(xué)外國語學(xué)院講師)。 Technology Press, Hefei, 2006.) when he talked about the “The Unification Principle”(大一統(tǒng)原則),he mentioned the reason why Chinese people do not think highly of dog since ancient times. In this book, he mentioned the aspect about words and expressions people used in daily life and give the explanation about why people had this viewpoint. This is a truth that there are many works on Chinese traditional culture and western culture, he also mentioned “Dog” in some degree In this book Traditional Culture by Zhang Qizhi ,(Foreign Language Press, Beijing, 2004.) he talked from the angle domestic livestock, and hardly mention from the view of culture. Meanwhile, even there are numerous materials about “Dog” in internet and some of which titled “Dog culture”, they are loose and not so systematical. And the important aspect is not the study itself, is that they are aware of the trend of development of culture the phenomenon exists in our daily life. Besides, in the book English Words and Culture ( Dai Weiping, Dalian University of Technology Press, Dalian, 2003.) he has a detailed study about “Dog” from words and expressions, of course this book just focus on dog in western culture. At the same time, in the article “On cultural connotation of dog in Chinese” (LiangHuan, TangWeiping, GuangxiUniversity, Nanning,2006.) has a detailed preparation of the reasons about how and why Chinese people gave a certain image to dog in culture above all in language and vocabulary through four aspects and get the conclusion: Han nationality's appraisals to dog are contradictory. For one thing, dog is respectable and loyal。 culture connotation in Chinese and English ‘Dog’‘狗’ ” (Shenzhen Professional Technology College, Yang Xinyi, Shenzhen, 2007) the author gives many language and culture connotation and differences by detailed pression, then give some viewpoints. However, his explanation is not systematically. In general, so many people have studied so much about this topic “Dog” and what they did is really worth respecting. And what I want to discuss in this paper is also on the base of their diligent work. This paper focus on this phenomenon from a new angleput the Chinese culture and western culture together, I just summarize many similarities and differences. Of course for the lack of knowledge, there must be some defects and shortings in this thesis, suggestions and improvements will be gratefully received. 3. The methods about this thesis mainly are parison according to materials. The reasons for using this method. The difficulties for using this method It is easy to make the materials just be shown together and make the study more boring and dull. At this point, I also fell difficulty though I had learnt the way of Hu Wenzhong’s culture study by parison and definition. by which may leads the context invaluable. Otherwise, how to organize the materials and where to
