Department of Neurology, the second Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou University, Suzhou 215004, China Corresponding author: Li Wen, Email: liwensz[Abstract] Objective To pare the diagnostic value of two bedside swallowing assessment scales, Standardized Bedside Swallowing Assessments (SSA) and Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines (SIG),in dysphagia screening in patients with acute cerebral infarction(ACI). Methods Eighty six ACI patients within 24 hours of stroke onset were enrolled in the study. Within 48 hours of their hospitalization, swallowing function assessment and dysphagia screenings were carried out with SSA and SIG, as well as Video Fluroscoipc Swallowing Study(VFSS) which is considered to be the gold standard of dysphagia diagnosis. Sensitivities, specificities, positive predict value (PPV), negative predict value(NPV), positive likelihood ratio(PLR), negative likelihood ratio(NLR) by SSA and SIG ,as well as their correlations with the result of VFSS were pared. Results The SSA gave the sensitivity of %, specificities of 75%, PPV of , NPV of , PLR of , NLR of , and Kappa of for the results of VFSS.
