【正文】 difference between the three options of creation a Variable Section Sweep in Pro/E. First create a datum curve as shown below: Insert Surface Variable Section Sweep Pivot Dir Select the top plane (shown on above pic) or if you have set different planes in your start part select the horizontal plane With this option we set the system to keep the section always normal to this plane while it sweeps the section through the trajectory Now for the section origin select the curve you have created Click done done open ends and the system orients you in sketcher mode. Create a line as shown above and now it is the time to use relations in addition with Variable Section Sweep surface creation. Sketch Relations pick the and value and enter a relation : sd3=trajpar*360*5 (for me the angular dimension had the symbol sd3) With this relation we define the system to orient the section 360 deg while sweeping the section normal to the plane and to make 5 turns total. Click ok and done. As you can see the section is always normal to the top (horizontal) plane I selected to create the Variable Sweep Surface (Pivot Dir option). Select the surface we created before (from the model tree) right click and hide. Feature Copy Move, Dependent Done, use the translate option, select the curve and select the vertical plane for reference and create a new copy of the curve Insert surface variable section sweep NormToOriginTraj, and use the trajectory we created before (the first one) as the origin trajectory (so the section will sweep always normal to this curve), as xtrajectory select the curve we just create and then enter in sketcher mode and do as before. Sketch an angular line and enter the relation I show you before. You must have the following (unhide the other surface) Now I think you can understand better the difference in using the Pivot Dir or Norm to Origin Traj, option while creating the surface. Now create two more curves as shown below in order to use now the Norm to traj option to create the surface (hidden the other two surfaces). Now create a surface using the Norm to traj, option selecting the third curve (as shown) as the origin trajectory and the last curve as the norm to trajectory. You must now have the following result. Spin the model and examine carefully the surfaces having in mind always which option you have used to create each one, and to which plane or curve the section sweeping normal to, through the creation of the surface.
