Althought the ci ty governm ent rebui l t thi s street, they di d save i ts ol dest buil ding. Another project was m ore successful : he persuaded the city governm ent to buy som e l and i n the centre of the ci ty so i t coul d not be sol d for busi nesses. Thi s area i s very im protant for the hi story of Ti anji n. It was here that the ci ty was fi rst buil t duri ng the Song Dynasty. Later m any treasures were found here. To Feng, di ggi ng down in to the earth i s l i ke readi ng page after page of a book. Each dynasty found i n the earth is l i ke an i nteresti ng story. N ot l ong ago he and other wri ters and arti sts took photos of the ol d parts of Ti anji n. The photos were put i nto a book whi ch was very popular. The m oney from the book hel ps hi s prjects. O nce, and ol d man asked Feng to si gn a book for hi m, sayi ng he woul d gi ve i t to hi s grandson who was not yet born. Feng was gl ad to do i t he knows that he past i s not onl y for us to enjoy but al so for the chi l dren of the future. Uni t 2 An i ntervi ew Pausanias, who was a Greek wri ter about 2020 year ago, has e on a m agi cal journey on March 18th , 2020 to fi nd out about the presentday O lym pi c Gam es. He i s now intervi ewi ng Li Yan, a vol unteer for the 2020 Ol ym pi cs Gam es. P: My nam e i s Pausani as. I li ved i n what you cal “ Anci ent Greece” and I used to wri te about the Ol ym pic Gam es a l ong tim e ago. I’ ve e to your tim e to fi nd out about the presentday O l ym pi c Gam es because I know that i n 2020 they were hel d i n m y hom el and. May I ask you som e questions about them odern Ol ym pi cs? L: Good heavens! H ave real l y e from so l ong ago? But of course you can ask any questi ons you li ke. What woul d you l i ke to know? P: H ow often do you hol d your Gam es? L: Every four years. There are two m ai n sets of Gam es—the Wi nter and the Summ er Ol ym pi cs, and both are hel d every four years on a regul ar basis. The Wi nter O l ym pi cs are usual l y hel d two years before the Summ er Gam es. O nl y athl etes who have reached the agreed standard for thei r event wil l be admi tted as petitors. They m ay e from anywhere in the worl d. P: Wi nter Gam es? H ow can the runners enjoy peti ng i n wi nter? And what about the horses? L: O h no! There are no runni ng races or horse ri di ng events. Instead there are peti ti ons li ke ski i ng and i ce skati ng which ned snow and i ce. That’s why they’re cal ed the Wi nter Olym pi cs. It’s in the Summer Olym pics that you have the running races, together wi th swim ming, sail ing and al l the team sports. P: I see. Earli er you said that athl etes are invited from al over the world. Do you mean the Greek worl d? O ur Greek cities used to pete agai nst each other just for the honour of winning. No other countries could joi n i n, nor coul d slaves or wom en! L: N owadays any country can take part if thei r athletes are good enough. There are over 250 sports and each one has i ts own standard. Women are not onl y al owed, but play a very important rol e i n gymnasti cs, athl eti cs, team sports and … P: Please wai t a m inute! Al l those events, hi s pany i nto two parts. They say that he is unfai r to other peopl e who want to sel l simi l ar software. Because hefi ts hi s new software free i n every new puter, the governm ent says he i s stoppi ng other pani es from sel li ng thei r program s. Thi s i s not fair. Everyone shoul d be abl e to do what they can to make thei r pany bi ger. Bil Gates has not onl y done what he can to stop other peti tors. H e is very ri ch, but he i s generous. H e has gi ven m il li ons of dol ars to hel p the educati on and the heal th of m any chil dren around the world. You coul d not meet a beter m an than Bil l Gates. A peti tors of Bil l Gates Bil l Gates has been very succesful and be e very ri ch. H e is very generous but how has he got hi s m oney? He has down this by maki ng sure that no one else wi l be abl e to pete with hi s software. Hi s software is not the best but it i s used most wi del y i n the world. When he sees what i s needed, he m akes a program and produces it qui cker than anybody el se. That way he gets a l arge part of the software m arket. Then he works on im provi ng the software l ater. H e tri es hard to stop others m aki ng better software. In 1995 the governm ent tri ed to m ake things fai rer for peopl e li ke m e. The governm ent wanted to m ake Mi crosoft i nto two pani es so that neither of them was so strong nor so rich. Thi s m eant that they coul d not stop somebody el se maki ng new software. I al ways wonder how he coul d get so ri ch so quickl y. H as he done i t by fair m eans? O r has he done it by bei ng a puter bul l y? 必修二 Uni t 1 In search of the am ber room Frederick Wil li am I, the ki ng of Prussi a, coul d never have im agi ned that hi s greatest gi ft to the Russi an peopl e woul d have such an am azi ng hi story.
