【正文】 “ money get money” toward his friend Marullo and Danny. . Biggers’ offers to cheat Biggers is the second person who tries to influence Ethan with his offer to cheat. Biggers is a perpetually young man who supplies materials in Marullo’s grocery store. He works as a salesman for . and D. Company. He is a smart man. He offers Ethan a deal to take profit from Marullo’s price agreement with . and D. Company. He gives Ethan five percent from the price agreement, while Marullo still has to pay just as usual or like the price agreement. Biggers offers fivepercent profile. Ethan does not realize what Biggers means, he thinks that Marullo is the one who deserves to get the discount. He can understand when Biggers explains his intention clearly, that those five percent will be in Ethan’s pocket, not others pocket, as stated by Biggers, “ You don’t get it. I don’t want Marullo. This five percent would be in cashno checks, no records, no trouble with the lax boys, just nice clean green cabbage from my hand to your hand and from your hand to your pocket ”(26). There are words “just nice clean green cabbage”. Biggers means that money is nice like green cabbage. He really tries to persuade Ethan to agree to his idea. Biggers does it because everyone also does it, he thinks that he has the right to do it, as he says, “Don’t be fool. Everyone does it”(27). Biggers leaves him a call card, and asks Ethan to think about his offer. Ethan does not say anything: he just changes the topic of their conversation from discount to weather. Actually, Ethan ponders Biggers’ offer. The word “everybody” disturbs his mind: it is round and round in his spinning head. It is clearly shown latter when he meets Joey Morphy. Biggers is only one step of a long stepladder leading Ethan to a change and depression. Biggers also has influenced in making Ethan to be depressed since Ethan is thinking about what Biggers has said. Ethan knows that the discount idea against his own belief. Since everybody does it or it is like a mon thing to do, Ethan is confused and there is a conflict inside himself, whether he is going to do it or not. He feels depressed whenever he is thinking about it. The word “everybody” seems too strong to resist and seems so easy to sweep away his honest belief. Although Ethan does not do the offer of Biggers, but later on Ethan does something bigger than just take discount from Marullo. Later, he kicks out Marullo from the store and from America, and Ethan also takes the grocery store, back. This show little bit about the change of Ethan, so, this means that Joey is succeed in influencing Ethan to change. This change later could lead him to depress and this depress leads him to mit suicide. This is going to be analyzed further in the third part of this chapter. . Joey Morphy’s pressures over Ethan Joey Morphy is the second person who tries to influence Ethan with his point of view of business and with his advice to rob a bank safely. Joey Morphy is a clever bank teller. He is Ethan’s good friend. Ethan often asks his opinion about something, for example Ethan tells Joey that he has rejected Biggers’ offers about giving him profit from the price agreement. Joey thinks that Ethan should take the offer or take the change of having a lot of money. Joey also thinks that taking profit from the price agreement is a mon thing to do everybody does it and not everybody gets a change for
