【正文】 聽力文稿Text 1 W: There is a lot to see in this city apart from old castles and monuments. Why not try art museums or stores?M: But we are in one of the most ancient cities in the world.W: Then let’s go separately.Text 2 W: What a long wait! I’ve been here since 8 ..M: Yes, that’s 30 minutes. There are still several people ahead of us.W: I don’t think I can wait any longer. I have a dentist appointment at 9 ..Text 3 M: Wow, I didn’t know you paint. I wish I learned a hobby.W: Hobbies are never too late to learn. There are a variety of classes at the local munity college. You could look into them.Text 4 M: Hi, Betty. It is so nice to see you here. I didn’t know you rode the subway.W: I don’t usually. It’s just that I’m fed up with driving, and the buses are crowded and unreliable. So I thought I’d give this a try.Text 5M: Is this rain ever going to stop?W: Yes, it is. The weather forecast says we’ll have light rain by Thursday, followed by a partly cloudy Friday. And the sun will be around at the weekend.Text 6 W: Good afternoon, Sir. I want to apply for a scholarship.M: Well, have you read the notice about this?W: Yeah. But it says we have to apply online. Can you help me in understanding the online procedure?M: Sure. You have to register on . If you have your student card, the process will be easy and fast.W: OK. What es after that?M: After signing in, select the scholarship you want to apply for. Once you plete the online form, take a print and submit it to the office before the deadline.W: Will I require anything else?M: Of course, photos as mentioned in the notice.W: Thank you.Text 7 M: Did you remember to bring my book Harry Potter? W: Oh, I am sorry. I pletely forgot about it. Could you call to remind me again tonight?M: Certainly. By the way, some books are on sale in Marcus’ Bookstore. Shall we go and have a look now?W: Of course. Would you mind if I stop by the shopping center? I need to pick up a birthday gift for my brother. M: Really? What would you like to choose? W: I have no idea. Would you remend some?M: Let me think. Maybe a fishing pole since he loves fishing?W: What a suggestion! I hope there is a fishing store in the center.Text 8 M: Do you have this monitor: 49WL95C?W: Yes, we do. May I know your requirement, sir?M: I want to build a puter with an adjustable viewing angle monitor. My old one is out of date. What would be the price for this monitor?W: Sir, it is $1,846. But we have a special discount and we are selling this for $1,656.M: Okay, but the price on Amazon may be a little lower. It was $1,496 the last time I checked.W: Sir, the price on Amazon changes every now and then. Also, we provide a better guarantee. You can bring the monitor back here if you have any problem with it.M: That sounds nice. Please pack the product. Text 9 W: Martin, would you share some of your research on banana growing in Australia?M: OK. Bananas were among the first plants ever to be brought to Australia.W: Oh, really?M: Yes, according to my research, the Cavendish banana, the type brought in to Australia, first grew in China but they were taken to London before they got to Australia.W: What happened at that time?M: Well, an Englishman was so fond of bananas that he grew them in his hothouse, a place where the banana had to be grown in England because of the cool climate. He was the one responsible for growing the banana introduced in to Australia.W: I see. And we’ve been growing them ever since?M: Yes.W: Are they hard to grow?M: Well, yes. To get one bunch of bananas per tree took up to three years at first. But this period is greatly reduced with modern growing methods.W: So how long does it take now? One year? Two years?M: No, around 15 months in good conditions. After the fruit has been removed, the plants are cut down.W: Then what can we do about them?M: It is an interesting question.Text 10 Recently, I have noticed that my students often rely on translators to help them with new vocabulary. Students like them because they can see new words in both their native language and English. Unfortunately, translators are not all created equally and I have seen some rather strange translations, so I remend my students, especially at the higher levels, use online dictionaries to help them. Here I’ll talk about some of the online dictionaries I have found.Let’s start with standard dictionaries. MerriamWebster, Cambridge, and Oxford all have online dictionaries for English learners. They all have British and American English pronunciations. But Oxford has a nice additional feature, where a small window called “Search Results,” contains words related to your search. There are also a number of picture dictionaries available online. One that could be used for beginners is ESOL Help. The clear pictures make it great for students to view on their own. For middlelevel and advanced students, try Visuwords. It shows how words relate to one another.Lastly, I have found a site called Reverso, which contains an English dictionary built by its users. It represents new words in very simple, easytounderstand language. 。
