China has also built up capabilities to work out emergency response plans, embark on drills and build disasterresistant facilities at the grassroots level. China has entered into partnerships with over 50 countries and world bodies. China hosted the firstever Asian Conference on Disaster Reduction and Senior Officials’ Meeting of Disaster Relief Departments within the SCO, where a host of multilateral and bilateral agreements were concluded. China has also been proactive in outpouring its compassion and generosity towards countries swept by earthquaketriggered tsunami within the Indian Ocean Rim and the earthquakeravaged region in Pakistan, among other international relief efforts following devastating disasters.
