(二)單一主語的主謂一致 1)以復(fù)數(shù)形式結(jié)尾的名詞作主語 A)一些學科名詞是以 ics 結(jié)尾如 :mathematics(數(shù)學) , politics(政治學) , physics (物理學)以及 news, works等 ,都屬于形式上是復(fù)數(shù)的名詞,實際意義為單數(shù)名詞,它們作主語時,其謂語動詞要用單數(shù)形式。如 : The paper works was built in 1990. I think physics isn39。t easy to study. B)一些名詞如 means(方法), works(工廠), crossroads(十字路口)等的單復(fù)數(shù)同形,因此需要根據(jù)其表達的是單數(shù)概念還是復(fù)數(shù)概念來確定謂語動詞的單復(fù)數(shù),例如: This works was built in 1982. This means has been tried All means have been tried C)有兩部分組成的物質(zhì)名詞如: trousers, glasses, clothes, shoes, 等詞作主語時,謂語用復(fù)數(shù),但如果這些名詞前有 a (the) pair of等量詞修飾時,謂語動詞用單數(shù)。如 : My glasses are broken. The pair of shoes under the bed is his. D)若英語是書名、組織機構(gòu)、格言、劇名、報名、國名等的復(fù)數(shù)形式,其謂語動詞通常用單數(shù)形式。如 : The United States is a developed country The New York Times is widely read in the world E)由山脈、群島、瀑布、運動會等 s 結(jié)尾的專有名詞作主語謂語用復(fù)數(shù)。 The Olympic Games are held once every four years. 2)集體名詞作主語時: A)如果集體名詞指的是整個集體,它的謂語動詞用單數(shù) 。如果它指集體的成員,其謂語動詞就用復(fù)數(shù)形式。這些詞有 family, class, crowd, 等。如 :Class Four is on the third floor. Class Four are unable to agree upon a monitor. B) people, police, cattle, youth等名詞一般都用作復(fù)數(shù)。如 : The police are looking for the lost child. C) mankind, man, humanity作主語時,謂語動詞一般用單數(shù)形式,如: Only man knows how to cook 3)非謂語動詞形式或從句作主語時 A)非謂語動詞形式或從句作主語,謂語動詞一般要用單數(shù)形式,例如: To see is to believe Swimming is a good way to keep health How will he solve the problem remains to be seen. G) a/the number of… 結(jié)構(gòu)作主語時 a number of + 復(fù)數(shù)名詞 +謂語動詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式:大量,許多 the number of + 復(fù)數(shù)名詞 +謂語動詞的單數(shù)形式: …… 的數(shù)量 例如: A number of trees are grown in April every year The number of students in the classroom is limited to ten H) there/here 引導句子 there/here 引導句子時,主語不止一個時,謂語動詞一般和鄰近的那個主語保持一致,例如: There are some chairs and a table in the room There is a table and some chairs in the room I) A with/but B等句型 當主語后面接用來說明主語的修飾語,如: with(和), along with(和), together with(和), but(除了), besides(除了) ,except(除了), including(包括), in addition to(除了), as well as(也,又), rather than(不是 …… 而是 …… ),謂語動詞不受修飾成分影響,仍然與主語保持一致即與 A保持一致。 例如: The teacher, along with her students is attending the meeting.
