This should prevent diagram binations that do not ply with each other and so reduce the occurrence of FMEA 2, and also improve the chance of detecting any faults before production.FMEA 3 amp。 4 – Wrong coil pitch and/or number of stator slots used on PAM winding designs.Yet again full awareness of important PAM winding rules and/or the correct application of the rules is shown up in the FMEA and the Attribute Ramp。R. By the nature of PAM designs, it is critical that the coil pitch and the stator slot bination are correctly specified. The design calc program doesn’t have the facility to reject inpatible binations, so it is left to the designer to work to the available rules. By updating the existing rules to include all new binations and any other proven annotations, and issuing each designer with a copy, then everyone will at least have all the correct rules available to use on these designs.FMEA 5 – Wrong winding diagram selected.Implementation of the control measures above should provide an immediate benefit to all designers when selecting multispeed winding diagrams, in that everyone will be working to the same rules, and also have the same access to them.As a long term control plan, these rules and lookup tables are to be incorporated into the electrical design calculation program. Whether it is easier from Guiseley’s point of view to add this to our existing program, or to wait for the new ELM04 design program that is still being developed, needs to be resolved with Ian Williams who is in charge of IBC39?!痵 Central Engineering. Depending on how Central Engineering resources are to be allocated, this action plan will require approximately 3 to 6 months of programming work.It is hoped that a mitment from IJW can be obtained by early June.FMEA 6 – Wrong method of start used to determine winding configuration.On PAM and tapped winding multispeed motors, the winding configuration is determined to a large extent by the method of start required on both speeds and the type of load to be driven. Therefore this is a fundamental requirement for the designer to get the correct information from the customer via the mercial departments. At present our sales literature states that we will assume DOL start on both speeds unless otherwise instructed.With the recent reorganisation of the sales into the Customer Service Centre, the team feel that it is important to reiterate the need to clearly state this ment to customers at the point of order and even at the tender stage. This point is to be discussed as soon as possible between Eriks Zvaigzne and Stuart Fyffe, and if necessary training can be arranged for the sales staff where required.. Savings plan and savings to dateThe Primary and Secondary Metrics shown earlier in this report include the cost of all recorded scrap and rework due to incorrect connections from January 1999 to date. This covers all the historical data used in researching the problem statement and the existing data from the monthly error reports issued by Quality Department.The metrics show that there is a great deal of fluctuation from month to month when plotting the cost of scrap and rework, although since the start of this project there appears to be the start of a downward trend in costs which is good. This is probably due to increased awareness of the problem as highlighted by this project.Further significant reductions in cost should be seen by the continued monthly reports over the next eighteen months once the FMEA action plans are fully implemented.The cumulative cost of scrap and rework due to fault code 61E can be seen in the graph below. The top (blue) line shows the average cost of scrap over the twelve months of 1999, and the lower (pink) line shows the target for this year as specified in the problem objective as at least 50% reduction in scrap costs on the 1999 total. The shorter (yellow) line shows that in 2000 to date, scrap costs are below the 1999 average, and are starting to meet the project objective. All values are in $US.
