So teachers must be skilled in assessing a student’s goals and take students’ ability into consideration to avoid frustration. of motivating primary school students in English learning Creating a relaxing and positive learning environmentThe environment can be used to focus the student’s attention on what needs to be learn. For example: when I taught “what color is it?”, I prepared apple, banana, grapes, pencil, ruler, panda(toy),car(toy) and box. Then I will call someone to close eyes and guess “what’s this?” she/he answer “It’s a … ” .If a students’ answer is wrong, the teacher should say “take it easy, don’t afraid of making mistakes, have another try. ”If the student’s answer is right, the teacher could say “very good, well done! good job.” Using real object, pictures and cards In order to make it sure that the students could learn the knowledge better, I provided them with cards and multimedia teaching. The students of 8 or 9 years old are usually curious and lively. They like to guess and ask why and they hope to learn English in interesting and funny ways. Providing various and interesting activitiesI always provide a lot of activities to motivate students. For example: when I teach numbers 15,I will use “Finger Play or Finger Family.” I remembered that I taught “Finger Play” for Grade Three students, they like it very much.(One finger, one finger, turn, turn, turn, turn to a toothbrush, shua shua shua .Two finger, two finger, turn, turn, turn, turn to a rabbit, jump, jump, jump. Three finger, three finger, turn, turn ,turn ,turn to a fork, cha, cha ,cha. Four finger , four finger, turn, turn ,turn ,turn to a cat, miao miao miao. Five finger, five finger, turn, turn ,turn ,turn to a tiger, wao wao wao.)6 Conclusion In Conclusion, motivation is crucial in English teaching and the ways to motivate students are more important to English learning. The ways mentioned above are relatively effective to motivate and sustain students in English learning.
