In the Garden of Eden, God offers all the good things to Adam and Eve and let them live in blissful unawareness, but the will of God also gave people freedom and the right of choice. Humans may make the wrong choice, but why would God gives human free will to do evil things? Because if doing good or evil is all God?s choice, it is not the free will of man. It embodies the justice of God to give human free will with responsibility to the choices. God also gave them a second chance even in choosing the path to degenerate Adam and Eve to tell them their mistake and hope they could return to the paradise. 5. Conclusion This paper conducted a research to study John Milton39。s great epic, the contradictions of the image of Satan in Paradise Lost. Milton lived in the 17th century, turbulent times of British, and his thoughts were inevitably affected by the history background. He drew Satan?s image from the characterizations and the factors such as social environment, politic and religion are closely linked. Because of Milton?s bumpy life experience, in the portrayal of Satan, he unconsciously put Satan as a dedication to rebel against tyranny and injustice. And made him a freedom image, and poured their sympathy to him. On the other hand, as a radical revolutionary, Milton39。s thoughts were directly affected by the English revolution, and his passion for the revolution also created the heroic Satan. Although Milton39。s Satan was on emotional sympathy, but as a devout Christian poet, he was not in rational for such a revolt against God. In terms of politic, Milton was unhappy with some of the revolutionary leaders because of the failure of English revolution, so some leaders of the rebelling angels became his objects of attack.
