wellpromoteFrom this chart, we can clearly see the connection between games and interest, and their influences on English learning. Games can cause and bring about interest in English. In reverse, interest can make the games active and more funny as well as stimulate students’ enthusiasm in the games and learning activities. Meanwhile, games activities and interest in English can help promote students to learn English well.4. Psychological theroy on children Psychological feature of childrenChildren in the primary school are quite curiositive to all the things that around them. Meanwhile, children at this age level are eager for acquiring some skills so as to raise their independence and selfesteem as well as their confidence (鄭雪:1999).According to the Psychological theroy, if children’s curiosity or their emotional expression are satisfied, they will feel happy and active in doing everything. But, in contrast, if their curiosity are hindered and constrained, they are likely to feel depressed and developed a great inferiority plex. They will have a tendency to shrink up when they can not get affirmation of their behaviours. Therefore, English teaching ought to bine children’s psychological and physiological characteristics so as to stimulate their interest and motivation so as to enhance their confidence in English learning as well as create a harmonious atmosphere in the classroom.Learning knowledge in primary school is an essential period for children. At this level, most of the children are active, lively, and full of energy. Active is the nature of children (桑標(biāo): 2003). There is saying goes like this: none of one children dislike playing. Therefore, we must create an effective proposal that is suitable for chlidren’s character development according to their psychological and physiological characteristics. Through this way, we can achieve the teaching aims effectively. The key to achieve this aims is to sustitude the traditional teaching method with an interesting teaching method. Most famous psychologists advocated that interest were the most important motivational factors in learning and development. Based upon the Psychological theroy, interest is the main motivation that could make children take part in activities. (鄭雪:1999). Children’s interest is always connected with their positive emotions. Interest can arouse children’s thirst for knowledge, can keep their will in learning English for quite a long time. With interest, children will have the class voluntly and consciously. Therefore, teachers should know more about children’s psychological features with applying various vivid and funny methods and materails to stimulate children’s interest in class. Feature of children’s attention It is widely accepted that young children have short attention spans. Jean Stilwell Peccei (1999) argues that if we put children in front of a TV with a favorite cartoon, they will sit riveted for a long period of time. This implicates if the lesson is interesting, the children may maintain their concentration and focus for the whole lesson. If the English teacher can make the lesson interesting, lively and funny, the children may love the English lesson. What can English teachers do to help children love their lessons? English teachers should conduct a lesson full of variety and changes of activity. When children have lost their interest in an activity, they will also lose their concentration, and then little or no learning takes place. Therefore, it is better to change an activity before children lose interest and get bored. Teachers of young learners change activities often to make the classroom atmosphere more fun. The relationship between games and chlidren’s psychological featureIt is believed children are easier to learn a second language than adults. Games using is closely related to characteistics of children for their age and their feature of psychology.Children have a greater immediate need to be motivated by the teacher or the material in order to learn effectively (Penny Ur, 1996:288). You can raise children’s motivation and enthusiasm by selecting interesting activities, such as games. They are always curious about the interesting things. Games are one excellent means to maintain the curiosity in the English course. When the teachers ask the children to play a game, they are prepared to enjoy. Therefore, we must deal with the relationship between Games and Chlidren’s Psychological Features carefully. We should consider the factors that influence both sides. For children, different age levels have different psychological Features. The games that attract children of 2 to 7 years old are probably not suitable for the children who are 7 to 12 years old. Games ought to be at the heart of teaching foreign languages. Jack and Theodore S. Rodgers (1986) suggests that games be used at all stages of the lesson, provided that they are suitable and carefully chosen.
