From this we can use the equal Chinese proverbs to translate English proverbs. On the one hand, the translation may be smoother. Proverbs are the cream of a language. They are the crystallization of the wisdom and the summarization of the experience of working people. They have contributed a lot to the enrichment of Chinese and English culture. Owing to the differences of living customs, religions and traditions , English and Chinese proverbs reflect different styles of national culture. This paper focuses on discussing the differences between Chinese and English in the use of proverbs and regard proverbs as a window of understanding the Chinese and English culture. Due to the different linguistic backgrounds, there are some difficulties in the translation of English and Chinese proverbs. This paper specifically discusses the translation method: literal translation, free translation,and the bination of literal translation and free translation, which makes it possible to understand Chinese and English culture more accurately.
