ords, the target text must be translated to be bound up with the target text receivers, given their circumstances and knowledge. In a sense of the coherence rule, the source text is not the most normative one, but only part of the translation belief. It only offers the information for the translator, who in turn filters out the meaningful information that he reckons in the receiver?s situation. (3)Fidelity rule Translation is a bridge between source text and target text. It is also requested to bear some relationship between them, and this relationship is called “intertextual coherence” or “fidelity”. This is postulated as a further principle, put forward as the “fidelity rule” by Reiss and Vermeer in 1984. The fidelity rule simply means that there must be coherence between the translation text and the original one. (4) The Relationship among the three rules Fidelity rule is secondary to the coherence rule, and both fidelity rule and coherence rule are subordinate to the topranking ruleskopos rule. If the skopos demands a change of function, the 15 canon will be no longer faithful to the source text, it is the skopos that determines the adequacy or appropriateness. And if the skopos requires intratextual coherence, the criterion of coherence rule is not applicable in use. B. Relevance to the present study Most scholars think that Skopo Theory is only applicable to the advertisement, tourism, and the movie subtitles. It is because that Skopos Theory just properly matches such short and easy translation application. Actually, it is also can be used to analyze the translation of text, including the Bible. So the thesis makes an analysis of the Chinese translation of proper noun in CUV based on Skopos Theory. Chapter Ⅳ .A study of the Chinese translation of proper noun in the Bible from the perspective of Skopos Theory This Chapter analyzes the Chinese translation of proper noun in the Chinese Union Version (CUV) respectively based on the skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule of the Skopos Theory. A. An analysis of the eponym translation in the CUV 1. Characteristics of the eponym translation in the CUV The CUV version of Chinese translation is on the basis of principles of transliteration when it deals with the name and social 16 statues of people in the Bible. And when the CUV version es out, Chinese readers are confused about this version of Bible, which is weird and difficult to understand.
