THE BEST OF MANHATTAN’S ART GALLERIES The Fri ck Col lecti on (5th Avenue and E. 70th Street) Many art l overs woul d rather visit thi s sm al l art gal ery than any other in N ew York. Henry Cl ay Frick, a ri ch New Yorker, di ed i n 1919, l eaving his house, furni ture and art col ection to the Am erican peopl e. Frick had a preference for pertwenti eth century Western painti ngs, and these are wel lrepresented in this excel ent col l ection. You can al so expl ore Frick’s beautiful hom e and garden which are wel worth a visit. Gugenheim Museum (5th Avenue and 88th Street) This m useum owns 5,000 superb m odern pai ntings, sculptures and drawi ngs. These art works are not al di splayed at the sam e time. The exhi bition is al ways changi ng. It wil l apeal to those who l ove Im pressi onist and PostIm presionist pai ntings. The Guggenhei m Museum buil ding is also worl dfam ous. Metropoli tan Museum of Art (5th Avenue and 82nd Street) The reputation of this m useum l ies i n the vari ety of i ts art col ection. Thi s covers m ore than 5, 000 years of civil zation from m any parts of the worl d, includi ng Am eri ca, Europe, Chi na, Egypt, other Afri can countries and South Am eri ca. The museum di splays m ore than just the vi sual deli ghts of art. It introduces you to anci ent ways of li vi ng. You can vi si t an Egypti an tem pl e, a fragrant Mi ng garden, a typi cal rom i n an 18th century French house and m any other speci al exhi bi ti ons. Museum of Modern Art (53rd Stret. Some poem s tel a story or descri be som ething i n a way that wi l gi ve the reader a strong impressi on. Others try to convey certain emoti ons.
