It is widely acknowledged that blends have originated with Lewis Carroll, a British writer, who coined the following blends when he wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, such as chortle (chuckle+snort) and galumph (gallop+triumph). In general, the blend is mainly used for writingrelated science and technology, as well as newspapers and magazines. It should be noted that though many of them have already achieved popularity in English, They are still considered to be slang and informal serious minded people. As a consequence, frequent use of blends in formal writing is not preferred. Conclusion As any other living languages, English is changing more or less day by day and English fashion words are also in a constant evolution process. In the light of related theories in lexical, this thesis explores the formation of the English fashion words and summarizes their characteristics. Finally, it gives a generalization of their development tendency. Because of the popularity of the fashion words and the rapid development of social, we can see the significance of studying English fashion words. First, the study of Inter English neologisms helps enriching and improving the study of modern lexicology. English fashion words are those which arise after social development, and they are new members of modern lexicons. Therefore English fashion words provide rich materials for modern lexical study. It has bee an important task for the English learners to identify the features of these new materials, to enrich lexical theories and to improve lexical study. Second, English fashion words are also the subject of applied linguistics and social linguistics study. They are created with the development of culture, they are influencing many social fields. The appearance of English fashion words raises new requirement for language teaching and learning. How to standardize them and guide them to develop in a healthy and orderly way has bee an important task for social linguistics and linguistic application. Third, researches on English fashion words can promote our munication in many fields. Through a prehensive word formation analysis of the English fashion words, we arrived at the conclusion that there are rules governing the formation of new words, even for those unusuallooking words, some laws can be 12 traced. To make it all succeed that we can identify the plex character as an anic part of the unit and some know how to put together different will promote mutual understanding and memorizing English words.
