I thought you were a new customer and now I know that you onl y came onl y to spy on m e and my menu,” she shouted. “Pl ease excuse m e,” he cal ml y explained, “I wanted to know where al l my customers had gone l ast week. I folowed one of them and found them in your restaurant. I don’t want to upset you, but I found your menu so li mi ted that I stopped woryi ng and started advertising the benefi ts of my food. Why don’t you sit down and try a meal ?” Yong H ui agreed to stay and soon they were both enjoying the dum pl ings and breast of chi cken cooked with garl ic. When they were served the i ce cream , Yong Hui began to look il l. “I feel sick with al this fat and heavy food, ”she said,“I m iss my vegetables and fruit.”Wang Peng was enjoying a second plate of dum pli ngs so he sighed. “Yes, ”he added, “and I would mis my dumpl ings and fatty pork. Don’t you get tired quickly?” “Wel l, I do have to rest a l ot, ”admited Yong Hui. “But don’t you think it would be better if you were a bit thinner? I’m sure you would feel m uch healthier.” They began to talk about m enus and balanced diets. “According to my research, neither your restaurant nor mine offers a bal anced diet,”explained Wang Peng. “I don’t offer enough fibre and you don’t ofer enough body–buil ding and energy–gi ving foods. Perhaps we ought to bine our ideas and provide a bal anced menu with foods ful l of energy and fibre. ”So that is what they di d. They served raw vegetables wi th the hamburgers and boi led the potatoes rather than frying them .They served fresh fruit with the ice cream. In thi s way they cut down the fat and i ncreased the fi bre in the meal. Thei r balanced di ets becam e such a succes that before long Wang Peng became sl im mer and Yong H ui put on more wei ght. After som e tim e the two found that their busi nes coperation had turned i nto a personal one . Final y they got married and li ved happil y ever after. FOR BUILDING A MCDONALD’S I was excited when I heard that our m unity was to have its own McDonal d’s restaurant. I thought about al l those young peopl e who woul d not have to go to the next town to buy their favourite burgers and chips. McDonald’s cares about healthy eati ng too and works wi th scientists to provide food that i s of hi gh quali ty, safe and heal thy. It i s also cheap .They often provi de salads as wel as burgers and chi ps. You can also choose between col a and mi lk shakes(奶昔 ). O f course it al so means more work for our area that neds jobs badl y. McDonald’s say they are interested in doing what is right for the munity and bei ng a good nei ghbour. So I think they wi l l be concerned about providing parki ng for the cars in our main street. Many of our young people wil l be only to happy to work for the pany. McDonald’s makes a promise to the people that work for them. They say,“We value you, your growing skil ls and your help to the pany. ”I can see nothing but good if this pany es to build its restaurant in our town. AGAINST BUILDING A MCDONALD’S I am very worried about McDonald’s building a restaurant in our hometown. We are a smal l munity and we enjoy our local dishes. I am not sure if McDonald’s food is as heal thy as they say in their advertisements. When scientists l ook at i t careful y, they find hi gh l evel s of fat, sugar and salt. Thi s is very woryi ng. Too many young peopl e are getting fat through eating too m uch fatty food. McDonald’s is not giving young peopl e a good idea of what a healthy di et shoul d be. Local Chinese food, on the other hand, is ful of fresh vegetables and fresh m eat and fish. The food at a McDonal d’s restaurant is always the same, so I wonder if it is made or brought in from elsewhere. Al though it is freshly cooked, it must be l ess healthy than our own local y grown and cooked Chinese food. I al so worry about al those cars bringing people to buy food at McDonald’s. First, there would be petrol fumes(氣體 ), which wil l make our cl ean air dirty. Second, there’s the probl em of al those cars that try to park and prevent other cars from movi ng quickly through our town. I’m sure many young people woul d be happy to work for McDonal d’s but wil they be treated fairl y？ In American, McDonald’s does not al ow workers’ unions to operate i n i ts restaurants and these are peopl e who speak up for the workers. If, as they say, the workers are happy wi th them , why shoul d they fear som e workers joi ni ng a uni on? So when I consi der the food, the cars and the jobs, I thi nk we shoul d not al l ow McDonal d’s to buil d their restaurant in our town.
